Nokia 6260 Slide Review - read honest Nokia 6260 Slide reviews
Introduction
The brand new Nokia 6260 Slide is a new phone from Nokia which offers a good set of features in an ok looking phone. The phone is set to be released early next year (2009) and should be popular with personal users. However, the design of the phone is a bit odd and we’ve seen a few people commenting that this phone is rather ugly and we have to agree. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but it won’t be the ugliest phone available either. It’s a slide design and does offer a good set of features so it’ll still be popular with personal users throughout the UK.
Specifications
The Nokia 6260 Slide is a great phone in terms of features and on paper it looks like an awesome phone. The phone is equipped with a 5 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a flash and auto focus. There is also a secondary camera for video calling and the main camera can record video as well. The phone also has built in GPS and a-GPS which means you can find your way to just about any location in the world using GPS navigation to guide you step by step. The phone also has a good media player so you can watch movies and listen to music on this phone with ease.
The phone’s main selling point in our opinion is the high speed internet which is available at 10.2 Mbps on 3G which is faster than most home broadband connections or you can use the built in WLAN card which means you can connect to high speed broadband internet at work or at home or at any WiFi hotspot for that matter. The phone also has 200MB of internal memory which can be expanded using Micro SD cards up to 8GB so you should have plenty of space for movies and music on this phone.
The phone also has a document viewer and FM radio which means you can do the occasional bit of work and tune into your favourite radio station while you’re on the move. Overall, the features of this phone are very good and on paper it appears to have everything you could need from a mobile phone. It’s a great personal device and we’d highly recommend it because of the great internet capabilities and the good media player and camera. The design does let it down a little though because it’s not very stylish; it’s more quirky than anything else.
Looks
In terms of looks, the Nokia 6260 Slide is an interesting design and as a slide phone it’s rather unusual. Well, in Black the phone appears to be an average Nokia slide phone but in White it just looks a bit odd really and the keypad is strange as well. All the edge keys appear to slide off the phone and it looks as though it’ll be a little bit difficult to use. The handset itself measures in at about 99.4mm by 46.5mm by 15.4mm which is quite small and cute for a slide phone. It weighs about 114 grams which is ridiculously heavy considering it’s not a smart phone.
The phone has nice look to it when you purchase it in Black but in White it just looks wrong and a little bit tacky. In Black the phone looks like a mini N96 with a nice glossy finish but in White it just appears dull and it’s an off white colour rather than brilliant white so it looks dirty in our opinion. However, whatever floats your boat! A lot of people may like this phone in both colours but we’d recommend black for that edgy and sophisticated look.
Design
In terms of the design, this phone has a nice software package and the applications and features all appear to run smoothly. It’s not a smart phone as it runs S40 so you’ll be pleased to hear it won’t be slow like Windows mobiles. However, the phone is a Nokia Symbian so beware of bugs and crashes because a lot of Symbian phones from Nokia seem to crash randomly. There have so far been no reports of this being a problem but as the phone is yet to be released we’ll just have to wait and see whether the software design has been improved since the last batch.
Overall
All in all, the Nokia 6260 Slide is a great phone with a great set of features and will probably do very well in terms of sales once it becomes widely available. The phone does have stereo speakers which are good and it also has a pretty good battery life of 6 hours talk time and 400 hours standby time. However, Nokia always over estimate their battery life specifications. The majority of the features on this phone are perfect for personal users and we’d probably not recommend this phone to business users due to a lack of business features available on this device.
The design of the phone in terms of software is good as far as we can tell but it’ll be interesting to see how the Operating System stands up to everyday heavy use from personal mobile phone users. As the phone is not yet widely available it’ll be a test of time on that one. The phone is set to be released in the early part of 2009 and will probably do very well to begin with. Once more reviews come out on this phone it’ll be interesting to see if it’s as good as it looks on paper, in reality.
Overall, the Nokia 6260 is a good looking phone (in black) and has a nice set of high quality features which seem to offer personal users everything they could need and more. It’ll probably do very well and if the price is right it’ll do exceptionally well but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens once the phone is released and becomes widely available. We’re optimistic for this phone though because it should be a good device.
