Nokia 6555 Review - read honest Nokia 6555 reviews
Introduction
The Nokia 6555 is a phone that was released in late 2007 and has a nice set of features including a camera, media player and internet. The phone’s design is of the flip variety and it has a nice sleek look and feel to it. The phone is available in Black, Red, Silver and Beige colours and is still to this day quite popular. However, we noticed a lot of reviews and comments from consumers stating that this phone has a problem with switching itself off randomly. In our opinion, that is pretty unacceptable so this phone can’t be rated too highly right from the start.
Specifications
The Nokia 6555 has a nice set of features and we’d probably recommend this phone only to personal users due to a lack of business features. The phone is equipped with a 1.23 mega pixel camera which is great for snapping a few shots here and there, but of course, is not the best camera available in a mobile phone. The phone also has an MP3 player which can play most forms of music and the phone has a 2.5 mm headphone jack which is helpful. There is also a video player and the camera can also record video which means you can enjoy a few video clips here and there too.
The phone also has an organiser which has a calendar and calculator which come in handy quite a lot with a personal phone. In terms of connectivity, this phone has Bluetooth version 2.0 as well as a Micro USB connection which means you can transfer files to and from your PC and phone with ease and speed. The phone is equipped with 3G as well as EDGE technology so you’ll have access to the internet and the phone has a WAP browser as well as access to email.
The Nokia 6555 has a nice set of features, as you can see, but we still feel it’s a little lacking for a phone which is barely a year old. However, we believe this phone is supposed to be targeted at basic personal mobile phone users and therefore we’d say that the features are pretty spot-on for basic use of a mobile phone. Overall, the features are nice and of high quality so you can enjoy using them with ease and speed mostly. The Nokia 6555 may not be a high end mobile phone but it certainly has a nice look and feel to it as well as a basic and high quality set of features.
Looks
In terms of looks, this phone has a nice sleek design to it and has a flip phone design which means it’s easy to carry around in your pocket and/or bag. The front of the phone has a nice display on it whilst closed and it shows an analogue clock and any missed calls or messages. The phone also has a nice display on the inside once you open the flip mechanism and this displays your menus and messages etc. The display is about 2 inches and has 16 million colours which is perfectly usable and very nice to look at.
The handset itself measures in at about 99.6mm by 44.3mm by 19.6mm so it’s quite a small phone and we think it’s pretty much the perfect size for a flip phone of this variety. Also, the phone only weighs 97grams which is nice and light for a flip phone and it’s got to be said that overall, the phone has a nice and sleek design to it. As we said before, the phone is available in four colours; Black, Red, Silver and Beige, so you can choose a colour to suit your needs and we think the variety of colours is good.
Design
Now, the design of the phone is good in general, however, the rumours and complaints about this phone shutting itself down are unfortunately very true and we think this has to do with a design fault in the software. This is unfortunate because other than this major problem there is nothing wrong with the phone at all in terms of its software. When everything is working, the phone runs smoothly and quickly and there is nothing to suggest that there are any errors of any kind. However, when the phone randomly switches itself off it can be rather frustrating – especially if you are in the middle of composing a text.
It’s a real shame that this is the case because apart from this fault the phone is very good, but because of this fault the phone is pretty much useless to a lot of people. We think that this phone is worth buying if you’re looking for a basic mobile phone. However, the phone is about £170 to buy on PAYG so we’d probably advise buying it on contract so that you can get it for free and have the warranty and guarantee available should the phone become too much of an annoyance.
Overall
All in all, the Nokia 6555 is a nice looking phone with a nice set of features and we think it’ll probably make a lot of people happy to own one. The design on the exterior is very good and everything appears to work well (when it is staying switched on) and it does have a very sleek and sophisticated feel about it. However, because of this major fault in the software, we can’t recommend this phone too highly but if you’re looking for a basic phone on contract then this could be a great option because we’ve heard that the software problem doesn’t affect all users.
It also depends on how often you will be using the phone – we would probably only recommend this phone to light users rather than heavy users because if you barely use the phone then you’re less likely to experience the software shutting down. We have to admit that this sort of a problem is unacceptable from someone like Nokia but if you take a look at the N series from Nokia it’s not a surprise that they’re having software problems. A lot of the N series mobile phones from Nokia tend to crash and shut down too.
Overall, the Nokia 6555 is a nice basic personal mobile phone and we’re pretty sure it’ll stay popular with basic users. However, we wouldn’t recommend it to heavy mobile phone users and we’d also suggest that you only buy this phone on contract to ensure you’re covered if something should go wrong with the handset. It’s up to you as to whether you buy this phone but we think it’s a relatively good phone and although it has a flaw it is still useable. All in all, it’s an easy to use phone with a good set of basic mobile phone features and it’ll probably be good for basic light users.
