Nokia C1-01 Review
In a word or two
A simple candybar phone, the Nokia C1-01 is all you need to stay in touch with friends and family on a budget.
The Design
Traditional candybar in design, the Nokia C1-01 has a sleeker look than the C1-00 and C1-02 devices. A colour choice of dark grey, warm grey, or red and midnight blue, you can add a splash of character to this affordable handset – and the addition of a frame around the screen elevates the classic features of this phone.
In design, the Nokia C1-01 is closest to the C2 and likewise has a 1.8 inch colour screen. There is a 5-way navigation key so you can locate the feature you want quickly and nicely spaced keys on the main keypad. The light weight of this phone (79g) lends itself to long conversations or typing of lengthy emails as it is comfortable to both hold and carry.
Nokia C1-01 Specifications
Compared to the original C1 handset, the C1-00, the Nokia C1-01 is packed full of features and is in fact the more expensive of the trio of C1s. You can access the internet through GPRS connectivity as well as make the most of all the Nokia features including Ovi Mail, Ovi Chat for instant messaging, Nokia Messaging, and Nokia’s Ovi Life Tools. The Life Tools are intended to enhance the experience in developing countries, providing easy access to information ranging from daily horoscopes and entertainment news to agricultural news and weather reports.
The 64MB internal memory of the Nokia C1-01 can be boosted to up to 32GB so storing all your images taken on the phone’s VGA camera and music stored on the music player is plentiful. This memory capacity, via a microSD card, is on a par with advanced smartphones like the HTC Desire and lets you maximise enjoyment of the music features, in particular. There is also an FM radio and the option to record programmes straight from the radio, and you can listen in multiple ways – via the 3.5mm audio jack, via wireless Bluetooth headphones, or out loud via the phone’s speakers.
Communication wise, you have the choice of text message, multimedia messages, email and instant messaging. And to keep you organised as you go about your day, there are practical elements like the calendar, calculator, world clock and notes.
Considerations
There is no 3G or Wi-Fi support on the Nokia C1-01 and the phone’s camera has no video option.
Verdict
The Nokia C1-01 is a budget device that enables you to browse the internet, take photos, listen to music and play games, on the move. Light and simple, this handset is ideal if you want a basic yet capable mobile phone.
