Introduction
The Nokia E66 is a slide phone from Nokia which is aimed at the business user of mobile phones but it boasts features such as a 3.2 mega pixel camera which makes it useable as a personal phone as well. Entertainment features are also available including video playback and a music player. The phone itself is 107.5 x 49.5 x 13.6 mm in dimensions and weighs approximately 121 grams. So although it is not a tiny phone it is still relatively small when you consider the features it includes. As a business phone it is extremely useable and as a personal phone it works as well.
Specifications
The display is a 2.4 inch QVGA 240 by 320 pixels screen with 16.7 million colours so quality of photos and displayed functions is good. The functionality of the phone is good as well with easy to use navigation keys such as the dedicated one touch keys for email, home, calendar and contacts. You can also use the intelligent accelerated scrolling key called the Navi™ Key which is great for emails and document scrolling. The phone also has a USB connector as well as a 3.5 mm phone jack for headphones.
In terms of power, you’re looking at about 7.5 hours talk time and 264 hours of standby time if you’re on GSM and these are the maximum time periods possible. The phone has a Micro SD card slot which allows a memory stick of up to 8GB to be inserted meaning you can store a lot of music, photos and other files on this phone if you needed to. The standalone memory is 110 MB of free memory.
One of the best things about this phone is the fact that it has a-GPS navigation included which is basic satellite navigation so you can use it on your person or in a car. Other great features include the camera which is 3.2 mega pixels and has features such as 4x digital zoom, auto focus, LED flash and red eye reduction options. The camera is also able to work as a video camera and there is a separate video camera for making video calls.
A cool feature of this phone is it’s capability to run windows live messenger so you can always keep in touch with your friends. It does however say that this doesn’t work in all countries. I like the overall specifications of this phone and there seems to be everything you could possibly need.
Looks
The look and feel of this phone is nice, it’s available in two colours; grey and white both in a steel finish. It’s small enough to not be called a brick phone but it is big enough so you won’t find yourself losing it. I like the shape of the phone as well, it has class to it and it does look like a business phone. I can’t help but feel that if you had this phone in your hand you would look rather classy and sophisticated and people would know that it is a business phone.
Some business phones as well as PDA’s seem to have a bit too much going on such as a keyboard and touch screen controls. This phone is simple yet sophisticated and I like that about it. The steel colours of grey and white make it look and feel personal and personally I prefer the white colouring on this phone; the grey looks a little less sophisticated and stylish when compared with the white. I wouldn’t mind one of these phones myself and I think a lot of people will like the shape and colours when presented the way they are.
Design
The design of this phone can be judged in many ways. If you’re talking about the design of the actual handset then I can say that the colour, shape and design are all great and I like the way the phone looks like what it is; a business phone. In terms of design of software I’d say they’ve got that pretty spot on as well. The phone runs the Symbian 9.2 operating system and features extras such as Home Screen 1.0 and S60 3.1 Edition, E-series. These software programs are well designed and work well with the layout of this phone.
Overall
The overall look and feel of the phone is sophisticated and stylish and as a business phone it works very well. With applications such as email and the internet it allows you to pretty much work from your mobile. I have to admit it could do with a popular document reader to be more useful as a business phone but as a basic phone for keeping in contact with clients and colleagues while on the go it works well. I’d say that the overall specifications of the phone are good and include everything you could possibly need in order to use it as a business phone.
The phone does feature some games which is good I guess but again, I feel like it distracts from the fact that this phone is supposed to be a business handset. To be fair, there are only two games and one of them is solitaire for your mobile so it isn’t too bad. The personal information management of this phone is very good and there are a lot of features which help with organisation which of course is key with a business phone. Contact groups, calendar and the to-do list options do make organisation a lot easier and faster on this Nokia business phone.
I’d say the plus sides to this phone out way the negatives and you should definitely consider this phone if you’re looking for a basic Nokia business mobile phone. There are a lot of features available and the a-GPS navigation will probably come in handy if you travel a lot for business reasons. Keeping in touch with friends, family and colleagues is easy if you use this phone and the entertainment features are, I guess, a bonus.
