Palm Pre deals The Palm Pre is yet another phone which Palm is hoping to bring out this year. The operating system which the Palm Pre is supposed to have is a novel in-house development of Palm. This gives the phone an edge when compared to other Palm predecessors such as the TX or even Tungsten E2. The abilities of the phone take a huge leap forward because of the webOS operating system developed from the world renowned Linux operating system. Also the overall layout of the phone has undergone some modifications making it more user-friendly. The phone is the first to come out after the extensive research that Palm has been conducting to try and beat competition from other smart phones which are invading the market such as the Apple iPhone 3G. Although Palm has been very secretive about the exact specifications the price tag too, it has provided plenty of assurance that the Palm Pre is going to be an affordable phone and users won’t have to think twice about the price tag.

Specifications:
- Size: 100.5 mm x 59.5 mm x 16.9 mm
- Weight: 133 grams inclusive of the battery
- Screen: 3.1 inches; capacitive and touch sensitive screen; 480 x 320 pixels
- Camera: 3.15 megapixels; enhanced fixed focus features; LED Flash; 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution
- Music: 3.5 mm audio jack available and MP3 is the only compatible format
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11/EDGE/HSDPA/Infrared/MicroUSB/Bluetooth 2.1 with A#DP/Class 10 GPRS (data speed: 32-48Kbps)
- Others: light sensor; accelerometer; proximity sensor; A-GPS chip for connectivity

The Palm Pre is not limited to just the above mentioned features, there is plenty more to be explored; thanks to the new OS! Contacts can be easily accessed mostly because of the new Synergy software which Palm has developed. Contacts and other details about them can be imported from a variety of sources using Synergy. Import sources include Outlook, Gmail or even Facebook. The contacts can then be easily organized using the “drag and drop” system which is highly appealing and also disallows the mess of having the same contact twice. When it comes to the display, although the resolution is identical to the iPhone, the pixel density of the Pre is much higher and so images are much clearer and sharper too! The touch screen has to be given credit for being much more intuitive when compared to the iPhone.

There is nothing harsh to be said about the phone’s looks since the edges are curvy and the plastic exterior has a nice glossy touch to it. Although the phone is a little big it is still small enough to slip into a pocket. The Pre follows its Treoes predecessors when it comes to the slide out keyboard. The volume buttons are on the phone’s left spine and the speaker is right at the back. One hand is enough to hold the phone. The Pre is definitely a Smartphone with a good caliber and it may take the Smartphone market in a different direction if the price tag is not too hefty.
