Introduction
The Samsung B2700 is a tough phone which is designed to withstand a lot of use and some pretty incredible wear and tear. The phone has a nice hard casing and is designed to look and feel robust as well as being able to withstand the pressure of belonging to someone who has an extremely active lifestyle. The phone is equipped with dust, splash and shock resistant and is supposed to be able to withstand a lot of pressure from everyday use in a very active environment. I have to say that I think this phone is very good and in terms of features it’s likely to hold up under the pressures of phones like the Sonim XP1 as well.
Specifications
The phone is in the low end of the price range but does offer a good amount of features which are well worth the bother if you’re into your sports and outdoor activities. The phone is equipped with a 2 mega pixel camera which isn’t the best but does offer video recording; there is also a secondary video call camera on this phone. The phone also has a few other features worth mentioning such as the media player which lets you listen to music and watch videos on your phone. The phone’s display, however, is only 1.9 inches and only displays 256K colours so isn’t the best quality.
However, the phone’s real features are in the organiser options and include an altimeter, pedometer and a digital compass which is pretty handy if you’re the outdoors type. The phone also has a dedicated flash light which can come in very handy and you’re also able to enjoy the features of the stop watch, extremely loud speaker phone and of course SMS, MMS and voice calling on this phone. The phone’s features are rather lacking if you compare them to a smart phone of today but that isn’t what this phone was designed for at all – it’s designed to be robust and high quality in terms of the handset not the features.
The phone is also equipped with EDGE internet which means you can surf the web on your mobile and even send and receive emails which is a great way to communicate while you’re out and about. The phone also has an FM radio and you’re able to download and play games on this phone as well. It is a complete set of basic features with a few added extras like the camera and media player but the main feature of this phone is its shock, dust and splash resistance which will surely come in handy.
Looks
Ok, so this phone isn’t designed to be a style phone, so don’t expect a beautiful sleek design. The phone has a good look to it for a tough phone and isn’t too bulky and doesn’t actually weigh too much either. The phone isn’t even that large at just 115mm by 52mm by 18mm and so isn’t a pain in the neck to carry around with you all day. I actually quite like the look of this phone considering it’s not designed to be stylish – it reminds me of the old Nokia 6250 in the way it looks as its wide and robust.
The looks of this phone are surprisingly tasteful when you consider that design of the looks wasn’t the important factor for this phone. Considering that the style had to be tough and hard this phone is actually rather pleasing on the eyes and is sort of like a robust watch design only much larger – obviously – as it’s a phone. To be honest, I don’t think looks matter with this phone but it’s nice to see that Samsung have actually bothered a little bit to make this phone nice to look at and a little easier on the eyes than some of the tough phones available.
Design
The Samsung B7200 is a great phone in terms of design and a lot of thought has gone into the robust qualities of this phone. As it had to be dust, splash and shock resistant there were likely to be a lot of design problems they faced during the design stages of this phone. However, it seems to have come out rather well and I can’t seem to see any flaws in its design at all. The phone is nice to look at as well as performing how it should and of course – it’s not as beautiful as an ordinary Samsung but it’s clear that it is made by style conscious mobile phone manufacturers.
Overall
The Samsung B7200 is a great phone and I think that if you’re an outdoors person you’ll very much appreciate a phone that can stand up to the strains of outdoor activities. The phone’s features are good considering it’s not a high end phone and for the price I think you’re getting extremely good value for money. The phone has a 2 mega pixel camera as well as a media player and FM radio and this is quite a luxury when you consider other tough phones on the market. It certainly lives up to my expectations and I have to say that Samsung usually do.
The phone’s software is well designed and the interface is easy to use; I think a lot of people will find this phone simple, basic and easy to use which is ideal if you’re usually in the outdoors and won’t have time to fanny around trying to get the phone to work. Luckily for Samsung I think they’ve done very well with this phone and although they’re not the usual suspects to try out a tough phone I think their almost first attempt is very good and will likely sell very well in the market.
Overall, this phone has a lot to offer and as it has all the features that an outdoors person would need such as the compass, flash light and pedometer, I think this phone will be very popular with the activist in all of us. The phone looks good too which is a bonus and I think that a lot of the phone’s features are good when you consider that it isn’t made to be an entertainment phone. All in all, this phone answers to all the people who need a basic phone that is tough enough to withstand the pressures of outdoor life.
