Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 Early Review

In a word or two
The Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 is a low-cost Android that boasts a number of social networking and multimedia features.

The Design
The look of the Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801is simple, and the phone has a 3.2 inch touchscreen and large menu key beneath. Similar in concept to the Samsung Galaxy Spica handset, the Apollo has been created with budget in mind – and to appeal to a young audience.

The TouchWiz UI on the device ensures navigation is fun and the experience is personal. The home screens can be customised with the apps and features you prefer so you can access these directly and quickly.

Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 Specifications
An Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 offers plenty of additional features and games through the Android Market, which you can download onto the handset. As the phone is launched exclusively with Orange for the initial 3 months, the Apollo comes with an Orange Wednesdays app pre-installed for cinema offers – as well as apps for social networking and entertainment.

The Apollo features Samsung’s Social Hub, an integrated phone book that links your friends and family in the contacts section across all social networking platforms. All the details of your friends on Twitter, Facebook, emails and more are stored in the one place on the phone, so you can communicate with them no matter the network. You can also view new photos which your friends have uploaded, and upload your own pictures onto sites like Facebook and Twitter, and videos onto the likes of YouTube.

When it comes to photos, you can take your own using the handset’s 3-megapixel camera. Although not in the same league as the likes of the new Motorola Milestone XT720’s 8-megapixel camera or the Nokia N8’s 12-megapixel camera, this phone’s camera is on a par with the iPhone 3G S’s and comes with autofocus and a 4x digital zoom – which isn’t bad at all, on a budget mobile.

The Apollo has support for aural entertainment too and comes with an FM radio and MP3 player onboard.

Considerations
There is 3G connectivity on the Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 so you can communicate online with friends and interact on social networking sites, but there is no Wi-Fi support.

Verdict
A good sized phone with a decent screen and features available for both communication and entertainment, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 is worth considering as it also comes with an affordable price tag.
