Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 Early Review

In a word or two
The Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 is a functional, professional device that has a fun side.

The Design
The Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 looks professional and has a distinctive, angular frame. There are orange accents on some of the keys which serve both a practical purpose, serving to highlight the dual-function keys, as well as adding interest to the design. You can tell by the exterior that the Pro 5 is not quite as focused on business as the Pro 4 which has an all-black, neat appearance.

However, the Pro 5 is compact, roughly the size of the iPhone 3G S. Thin and easy to use, you should have no issue taking this handset with you in your pocket, bag or briefcase. The 2.4 inch screen is smaller than the Pro 4’s and is not touch-sensitive but it allows for a clear view of images and documents, and the sensible keyboard layout bolsters effortless navigation and use. The keys are angled for definition and there are shortcut keys for call making/ending, home and back.

With both a QWERTY keyboard and screen, the Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520’s design draws comparisons with a BlackBerry.

Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 Specifications
While the focus of the Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 may not be solely work, this remains a strong element. The platform is Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard, the version for non-touchscreen devices, and so the handset features Microsoft business tools. The most useful one, arguably, is the Microsoft Outlook Mobile as this gives you the freedom to manage your emails, calendar and contacts from your mobile phone. You can sync the Pro 5 with your PC, work or home computer, so you always know what’s happening when you’re away from the office. You can sort meetings from your mobile, sending out invites, accepting invites and monitoring any requests sent out. This is a time-saving feature that ensures you can make the most of your travel time, for example, as well as reply immediately even on days when you don’t login to your PC.

With strong email support, the Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 receives emails in the same format they were sent including the attachments. Opening documents is done through the Pocket Office which means all Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDFs can be read and responded to straight from your mobile phone.

Other business features include a secondary camera for conference calls, Adobe Flash Lite support, and an expandable memory via a microSD card up to 16GB so you can store all your documents and information with ease.

The Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 has a fun side too and comes with social networking integration. So as well as staying updated with your work life, you can manage your social life too. There is an MP3 player, FM radio, and 2-megapixel camera and video also on the phone.

Considerations
There is no flash on the camera and with only 2-megapixels the images will be fairly basic.

Verdict
The Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 is a solid business phone with the added benefit of coming with entertainment and social networking features.
