Samsung S3550 Shark 3 Review
In a word or two
The Samsung S3550 Shark 3 is a basic slider phone which boasts integrated social networking ability.
The Design
The look of the Samsung S3550 Shark 3 is small and attractive. The 2 inch screen sits above the core buttons for navigating the menu, making screen selections and dialling. When you slide the keypad down, the finger-friendly nature of each key is revealed, with sufficient space allowing for confident and comfortable presses.
The case is black but just like the S5550 Shark 2 phone, the back of the Samsung S3550 Shark 3 is metal with an unusual pattern. This finish belies the budget character of this handset and lends an air of overall quality to the phone.
Samsung S3550 Shark 3 Specifications
The Samsung S3550 Shark 3 is the cheapest of the Samsung Shark range of mobile phones which includes the aforementioned S5550 Shark 2 and the S5350 Shark. The design is similar to the Shark 2, whereas the S5350 is a candybar mobile. The internal workings which are found in all three handsets include social networking integration. On the home screen of each handset, there are icons for accessing sites like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, and you can view status updates and any new messages easily on this screen too. For instant messaging there is an application which allows you to bring all your contacts from different IM servers like Google Talk and AIM onto your phone.
Useful feature on the Shark phones are Google Maps and Bluetooth connection. There is also an FM radio with RDS so you can read information from the station you’re tuned into as well as listen. The DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) technology improves the sound quality too. For your safety, you can pre-write SOS messages on these phones, ready to send for help should you need it.
You can send emails from your phone together with multimedia messages. When it comes to sharing photos, the 2-megapixel camera means you can take snaps on the move to send to friends – and the expandable memory of up to 8GB enables you to store images also.
Considerations
Unlike the other two Sharks, the Samsung S3550 Shark 3 does not have support for 3G but you are still able to access the internet.
Verdict
The Samsung S3550 Shark 3 is the most affordable of an affordable range of phones and so it is unsurprising that the features are not cutting-edge. However, for social networking offerings alone, this mobile is a good buy as it combines a good slider design with some clever features and a small price.
