Samsung U810 Renown Review - read honest Samsung U810 Renown reviews
Introduction
The new Samsung U810 Renown which is yet to be released is a very basic mid range phone from Samsung which is supposed to be a personal phone for basic users. Well, in my opinion, it is a bit of a waste of time for Samsung to be making a phone like this in today’s market. It has a 2 mega pixel camera, an MP3 player and that’s about it – seriously, it doesn’t have much on it at all. It is equipped with VZ Navigator which appears to be a cheap GPS service for the US. I’m guessing that means that the UK version of this phone will be equipped with GPS of some sort – or maybe nothing at all.
Specifications
This phone is definitely made for people who don’t want all the bells and whistles of a high quality phone. It’s very basic and has very few features available on it. It’s a great phone for people who want something this basic and it does have an ok look to it. It’s a flip phone which Samsung are very good at and it is available in a colour called “Brick” which just looks dull and brown to me. Ok, so it’s not all bad. The phone does have some features worth mentioning such as the 2 mega pixel camera which can record video as well, the MP3 and Mpeg 4 player which allows you to play music and watch videos and of course the GPS system which may or may not be available on the UK version of the phone.
Other than the camera, the media player and the GPS system the phone is rather lacking in features and to be honest that is about all you get. The phone has the basics such as Bluetooth and an organiser but it really is as limited as that. It’s very much like the old Samsung flip phones such as the D600 but it doesn’t seem to have evolved much in terms of features since 2005 when the D600 was released and to be honest I’m a little disappointed by this phone.
Overall, the features aren’t terrible, but they’re not great either. It has all you would need as a very basic user but apart from that it’s very limited. I think this phone will be very well suited to someone who doesn’t want all the bells and whistles of the newest phones and the latest technology. If you simply want a phone that’ll make phone calls and send texts then this is for you.
Looks
In terms of looks, the Samsung U810 is a good looking phone and does have a lot of appeal to it. However, I think the colour choice is a little interested to say the least and it won’t appeal to everyone. I think it would have been nice to see this phone available in black as well as the “brick” colour and it certainly would make it more widely appealing. The phone measures in at 98.3mm by 49.5mm by 17.5mm which is about average for a flip phone – it’s a little on the wide side and the phone weighs about 115 grams which is extremely heavy for such a basic phone.
Overall, the looks of this phone are ok, nothing spectacular and nothing too dull so it matches the features in that respect. I can’t really say too much more about the looks of this phone because there isn’t much else to say. It’s a basic flip phone and does look quite nice – it’s just a shame that the colour choice isn’t as varied as it should be for a basic phone like this. Other than the obvious downsides such as the colour scheme, the phone does look ok and is probably going to appeal to a few people here and there.
Design
As with all basic Samsung phones, the software is great and it works very well and there are no glitches whatsoever. The phone’s features do work well and everything seems to run smoothly. The only thing I will say is that, again, it’s a very basic phone so not much should go wrong. Getting a phone as basic as this to work smoothly in terms of software is a walk in the park for most mobile phone manufacturers so you really shouldn’t have any problems at all. The design of the exterior is a little boring but the interior is fun and reminds me of the D600 quite a bit – which isn’t a bad thing.
Overall
The Samsung U810 is a great phone for its purpose and although it doesn’t have all the mod cons and the high quality features of the latest smart phones it still has that fun Samsung mobile feel to it and is very similar to the good old D600. I have to say though that if you want something with a few high quality features then you should definitely look elsewhere because this phone is very limited and is likely to be very boring to a lot of mobile phone users. For those of you who enjoy a phone that literally makes calls and sends texts then this phone will be ideal for you.
It doesn’t really appeal to me and the colour choice is a little odd. It may be a bit too boring for my liking but it will definitely appeal to some people. I will say that I’m completely confused as to why they’ve decided to only release the phone in this odd brown colour and it would have been nice to see the phone available in black or silver. The design of the software is very good and as always with Samsung, there are no glitches of any kind.
All in all, the Samsung U810 is likely to appeal to a lot of people but it definitely won’t be on the best sellers list. However, this phone was clearly designed to cater to people who want a basic phone with very basic features and nothing more. If you’re looking for a phone that has an ok design and a few features then this phone is ideal for you but if you are looking for anything more then I’d suggest you look elsewhere. Samsung have made a lot of basic phones this year and I’m surprised they bothered with this one to be honest – their slim line sleek and stylish phones seem to be doing very well.
