Sony Ericsson Elm Review

In a word or two
The Sony Ericsson Elm offers you a great way to communicate and be environmentally aware.

The Design
The look of the Sony Ericsson Elm is more about helping the environment than breaking new ground in design. With a classic candybar shape, the Elm has the same features as the Sony Ericsson Hazel with the exception of form – the Hazel is a slider phone – and both are the latest GreenHeart mobiles. Like the C901 and the Naite phones, these two handsets are made from environmentally-friendly materials, and are powered by a low-power AC adaptor, coming with a paperless manual.

The Sony Ericsson Elm has not been compromised when it comes to design, however, and it has an easy-to-use key layout as well as a hand-friendly shaped back. The 2.2 inch screen can be rotated to enhance your typing experience and the case is available in metal black or pearly rose. The exterior is splash resistant which means you can take your phone with you as you enjoy the outdoors and be able to shield your mobile from the elements. This aspect complements the Walkmate application inbuilt in the phone, which tells you how many steps you’ve taken – although unlike the application on the Samsung Blue Earth, it doesn’t work out how many trees your steps have helped save.

Sony Ericsson Elm Specifications
The Sony Ericsson Elm has features which have been created to make you more aware of green issues so you can do something to help. For example, the quick 3G connection lets you access the internet in no time and the home screen also has some time-saving aspects. The updates from the social networking sites there are applications for, like Twitter and MySpace, are displayed on the home screen so there is not always the need to open the application – and when there is, the Widget Manager is there to hurry this along.

There are plenty of additional features which enhance your enjoyment of the Sony Ericsson Elm. The phone has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus so you can capture good quality images. The internal memory has capacity for up to 8GB using a memory card so you have ample storage space for all your photos. Sharing your saved images is easy as the phone has a Bluetooth connection which allows you to wirelessly send pictures to friends’ compatible handsets. There are also the options to email or send photos through MMS.

The Sony Ericsson Elm also comes with an FM radio and music player to keep you aurally entertained on the move. Before and as you travel, you can make the most of the GPS and Google Maps features too, plotting your journey and keeping track of your progress on the map.

Considerations
The screen is on the small side and there is no 3.5mm audio connector on the phone.

Verdict
The Sony Ericsson Elm lets you enjoy having a mobile phone that is kind to the environment as well as fun and practical.
