Sony Ericsson G700 review

The Sony Ericsson G700 is a great phone which was released in May of 2008. This phone has a good range of features including a 3.15 mega pixel camera. This phone also has a media player, FM radio and a good range of internet features such as email, high speed browsing and even photo blogging. This phone really does have a good range of features and it doesn’t look bad either. It’s not really my cup of tea but it is a good looking phone with a good range of features for personal users – the phone is also available in a business version.

Specifications

This phone has a great range of features, including a 3.15 mega pixel camera and many other features as well. The phone has a music player which can play files of most formats and you can also arrange your music into playlists. This phone also has a good range of internet capabilities such as the 3G network which allows for high speed browsing on your mobile. The camera has a good range of internal features such as a flash, image stabilizer and auto focus. The phone is also equipped with a second camera for video calling and the main camera can also record videos.

The phone has a good range of high spec features and most of them are for entertainment use. The phone has a great feature called handwriting recognition so you can write on sticky notes on the phone and it’ll be understood. The media player also has some features that are good such as Track ID which is a way of finding out who the artist of a song is. All you have to do is record a few seconds of a song and Sony Ericsson will tell you who the artist is and what the song title is. This is a great feature if you’re in a bar or something and hear a song that you just have to download.

The camera has features that allow for picture editing and you can also blog your photos for your friends and family to see. This is a great way to share your experiences. The phone also has the usual features such as a document viewer, organiser and built in hands free so you can make calls with ease. The phone of course has the usual SMS and MMS features as well as email using the integrated email client which allows you to send and receive emails with attachments. This phone really does have a great range of features.

Looks

In terms of style and looks, this phone has a good look to it with a good design. The buttons and screen meld well together and make the phone very easy to use. The handset itself is 106mm by 49mm by 13mm in dimensions and weighs only 99 grams so is a very small and sleek phone. The design is slim line and the only negative thing about the looks of this phone is the fact it’s only available in one colour. I’m not too bothered about it only being available in one colour because in black this phone would look good but unfortunately the colour they have chosen is silk gold.

Ok, so silk gold isn’t that bad but it’s very personal – not everyone is going to want a gold phone and I know a lot of people who don’t like gold as a colour, especially for a mobile phone. In my opinion this is where they have gone wrong with this phone. Everything else is find – it’s just the colours available are so limited. I’d like to have seen it in black or silver ideally and I feel it would compliment the phone’s design better than the gold does. In my opinion the gold doesn’t do anything for the phone except make it look tacky and cheap.

Design

In terms of software, this phone runs on a Symbian operating system and the applications and features all seem to run well and smoothly. The high quality design of the inside doesn’t really match the outside of the phone but I think that could be something to do with the colour. The inside features are all sleek and smooth but the outside seems a bit off to me. It reminds me of a toy phone you’d give to a child. It just doesn’t look the part for me at all. I’d like the phone in black I think but gold has ruined the look and feel of the phone.

Overall

All in all, I like the phone and I think the features are good for a basic personal use who likes entertainment phones. I will however, say that it could be better. For a phone released in 2008 you will be expecting more than this phone offers. The internet speeds are good but they’re not brilliant the only amazing feature on this phone is probably the email client and the push email facility. The phone’s camera is good and so is the media player but again they’re not brilliant.

I think if you’re looking for a mobile phone with basic entertainment features and good communication features then this phone will suit your needs. If you’re looking for a high quality superior phone with super high tech features then this phone will disappoint you. The overall features and design of this phone is good but I do feel it is lacking in some areas – especially for a phone released this year.

However, I do like the phone as it is and it would be perfect for a basic user who is looking for an easy to use phone that offers a good range of features. It’s not amazing and it’s not terrible it’s just an average mobile phone really and it does have some good points and I will say that I think the good points out way the bad. It’s a good phone if it’s what you’re looking for.
