HTC has confirmed that its Sensation and Sensation XE handsets will be getting the Android software upgrade next month, with the Sensation XL receiving ICS shortly afterwards.
We knew that the latest flavour of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, was heading to HTC phones soon, and now the company has named the date when owners of its Sensation range of mobiles can expect the upgrade – namely March for the original Sensation and XE version, and “soon thereafter” for the XL.

The XE model is the Beats Audio-infused version of the first HTC Sensation phone, and features a bigger memory, battery and processor as well as a snazzy red and black design. The XL handset sports a whopping 4.7-inch display together with Beats Audio technology.
Making the announcement on Facebook, HTC said: “HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon thereafter by the HTC Sensation XL.”
Plus, there’s more good news for HTC fans – Ice Cream Sandwich is heading to the EVO 3D, Incredible S, Desire S and Desire HD smartphones “later this year” too.
“In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks.”
In terms of what you can expect from Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, new features include a refreshed UI, face recognition technology for better video calling, and enhancing gaming capabilities.
With the HTC Sensation range of smartphones first in line for the new Android platform upgrade, this news must be music to owners’ ears! And HTC is set to release the upgrade on additional handsets later this year, so watch this space for further details.
