The long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Galaxy S2 smartphone is finally here – for some owners of the Samsung flagship handset, anyway.

Samsung unleashed the ICS update in the UK in the week “commencing 19th March”. But not everyone has received the update to-date. At the time of officially announcing that Ice Cream Sandwich goodness is heading to the Galaxy S2, Samsung also mentioned that “availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network’s own software approvals process”.

So what’s your network’s “software approvals process” like?

If you own the Galaxy S2 on O2 or Three, then you’re likely enjoying the joys of ICS – as this Android update has already landed on these networks.

However, if you’re on Orange, T-Mobile or Vodafone, you might be feeling a little impatient as there is no confirmed date for the ICS update to hit the S2 on these operators. Similarly, SIM-free Galaxy S2 owners who may have expected to be first in line need to hang on for confirmation – as Samsung has said it is “unable to confirm exact dates as the software testing and approval progress is subject to several variables, but we are working as quickly as we can”.

Both T-Mobile and Vodafone have kept quiet so far on when customers can expect the ICS upgrade to be available, stating they are running tests on the software at the moment.

There’s a bit more good news for those with an Orange Galaxy S2 handset as the network has given April as the due date.

At one point this week, it looked like the upcoming Galaxy S3 could make an appearance before the rollout had finished! But this is very unlikely to happen now.

We’ll keep you posted on more news from the networks still to get the Android 4.0 update. In the meantime, let us know if you’ve got the ICS update okay, in the comments section below.
