Why compare with us?

Putting in a fresh form factor variant to its otherwise boring stable of full-touchscreen monolithic smartphones, Taiwan-based computer giant Acer opted to go for a slider form on the Acer beTouch E200.

It has one other slider, a full QWERTY side slider in the M900. The E200 is positioned as sitting between its flagship neoTouch and the more affordable E101 but offers better affordability than most other smartphones on the market.

Features at a Glance

The E200 slider weighs a rather hefty 146g and measures 110 x 53.5 x 15.4mm making it one of the larger slider smartphones I the market. Coming in either black or white body colors, it gets powered by the same 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 engine powering the other beTouch handsets.

It runs the same MS Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro platform and enhanced by the Acer UI 3.0 for a few native apps to distinguish it from other Windows handsets. It also comes preloaded with the usual NetFront HTML browser, IM and Email client and the Pocket Office Suite that includes PFD viewer.

The E200 is a quad band GSM radio with class 10 GPRS/EDGE speeds on the 2G network and a dual band UMTS with HSDPA at 3.6 Mbps speeds for a no-wait online experience. It gets no WiFi but it come with standard wireless high speed data connectivity with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and wired miniUSB 2.0.

Internal memory is limited to 256MB ROM and 512MB RAM needed to run the Android OS properly and comes with practically unlimited phonebook entries and call records. You also can’t miss its microSD memory expansion for up to 16 GB for all your multimedia files.

And talking about multimedia, while it has no FM radio, you get the usual MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ audio player and MP4/WMV/H.264/H.263 video player. There’s a speakerphone but no 3.5mm audio jack so stereo listening goes wireless over its A2DP profile or over its miniUSB using a proprietary stereo earphones.

The Acer beTouch E200’s display gets the usual 64k color support from its Windows Mobile OS on an otherwise capable 3-inch TFT LCD screen with Wide-QVGA resolution. Imaging gets a conventional 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera with unspecified video recording. Its 1140 mAh Li-Ion battery yields a modest 5 hours of talk time and 500 hours of standby time.

The Acer beTouch E200 is a simple 3G smart phone with a slide out keypad, TFT touch screen and decent features.
