The Blackberry 8800 is the classic smart phone from Blackberry which offers phone, email and even GPS applications in one easy to use device. This phone has a great range of features and is aimed at business users who need to work a lot while on the go. The phone itself is bulky but this is because it has a 35 key QWERTY keyword on it so you can send texts and emails easily. The features of this phone make it ideal for business use and the additional features such as the media player make it good for business users to wind down after work on the way home.
Specifications
The phone itself has a great range of features including wireless email, an organiser, corporate data access and of course phone, SMS and MMS. If you’re a business user then this phone will probably have everything you could ever need to keep working while you are on the move or travelling. The GPS system means that you can find your way to just about any location in the world so if you travel a lot for business then this phone is perfect for you. You can even take advantage of the corporate data access which means you can work directly from your Blackberry 8800.
The phone also has a media player which allows you to listen to and watch your favourite media right from your phone. You can also use the USB cable to transfer files and folders to and from your PC and phone. The phone has about 65 MB of memory which is expandable with Micro SD cards so you can store all your documents and files on your phone with ease. Another great feature of this phone is the fact that you can use your Blackberry as a wireless modem for your PC or laptop which is a good feature – but then again most laptops and PCs these days have integrated modems anyway so could be a wasted feature.
The phone has a very good battery life which can last up to 5 hours with talk time and up to 22 days standby time so as you can see the battery is very good. The phone also has a good deal of security features such as password protection and a keyboard lock. This is very important with a phone that you will be using for work related tasks especially if you have a high profile job which involves some secrecy.
Looks
The phone has a very business look to it and of course, as it is a Blackberry, you will know straight away that it isn’t slim line or small by any means. The good thing with Blackberry’s is that they don’t need to be small and they do better being the right size that they are. The phone itself measures in at 114mm by 66mm by 14mm and weighs about 134 grams so isn’t absolutely huge but it is by no means small either. The design is good and the QWERTY keyboard is laid out well and offers an easier way for you to send messages from your phone.
The phone’s design is simple and classic of a Blackberry phone but it also has a smart edge to it that makes it appear extremely high tech, which of course, it is. It may be a large phone but it does has a good design in that it doesn’t appear bulky it just appears wider than usual phones and obviously when people see that it’s a Blackberry they’ll understand and it won’t be anything to do with looks – it’ll be about what it can do and how it works for you.
Design
The design of this phone is great and although the looks aren’t everything with this phone, this means that the design of the interior technology needs to be spot on and I have to say that it is. The phone has a great range of features which all work well and the phone runs on a high quality operating system as well as having support for major corporate software such as Microsoft and Lotus. You’ll really be quite impressed with the design of the software on this phone and you’ll be able to enjoy a seamless array of high quality technology.
Overall
All in all, the Blackberry 8800 is a great business phone and is ideal for almost any business user. The range of features available on this phone are spectacular and the high quality design of the phone is amazing. You will be able to take advantage of the great features such as the email client, the internet and of course GPS navigation systems all of which can allow you to work from wherever you are in the world. You’ll be able to take your work with you using the expandable memory and even type up reports using the QWERTY keyboard.
I’ve always been a fan of Blackberry mobile phones because they’re not really about looks but somehow they look how they’re supposed to. They are usually bulkier than other mobile phones and offer a good range of features to the business user in us all. However, I will say that some of the more stylish and new mobile phones that are available on the market have all but one of the features that a Blackberry has. QWERTY keyboards are becoming a popular option for phone manufacturers and I’d say the only unique feature of a Blackberry is the corporate data access.
Having said all that, the Blackberry was the first phone to integrate email and web access for business use so it can’t be knocked too much. I like the Blackberry 8800 and I’d say if you’re looking to buy your first Blackberry PDA then you’ve just found the one that’ll suit you. It’s easy to use and has all the features you will need – you can simply use this phone to get used to the PDA world and then upgrade to a smarter and more sophisticated Blackberry mobile phone. All in all, it’s a great phone and is well worth having if you’re a busy business man or woman.
