If there’s one smartphone that can claim to be a serious non messaging non internet and non social networking handset meant just to let the user communicate and get entertained once in a while, it has to be the Blackberry Curve 8910.

But that is now outdated for smartphones in this class so some updating can be expected though for the interest of keeping the price down, we could see more of the same. SatNav with GPS functionality with a more updated Blackberry Maps should still be there. But all these is speculation and we hope to see the BlackBerry Curve 8910 released soon to confirm these specs.
It’s easily the best looking Curve in its generation that has all the upscale features we’ve come to expect from a RIM smartphone but without 3G, as less than stellar camera, no FM support and no email without the Blackberry Internet Service account.
But all its shortcoming may end with the updated Curve 8910. Afterall, the 8900 is already a year old and needs a successor. It seems RIM is taking its sweet time updating its Curve family that started in 2007 with the 8300 model that only got updated in 2009 with the 8900, 8520 and 8530 models.
Features at a Glance
First leaks on the updated 8910 reveals a trackpad replacing the older trackball navigation feature on the 8900. But this borders more on the ergonomics in using the handset. About the only real useful feature lacking in the 8900 was its 3G and high speed connectivity. The 8910 is expected to go 3G on the same quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio on 2G.
It is also expected to run on the latest BlackBerry OS 5.0.4+ with all the features it supports. All the upscale features that have become popular on the Curve 8900 will get updates as they get available like WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP as well as microUSB 2.0 that support local data connectivity.
Leaked pictures online clearly shows a handset with about the same styling and dimensions as the 8900 with the same 2.4-inch display with QVGA resolution. But it could very well sport an AMOLED display that can improve its power consumption by almost 50% to bring the same 1400 mAh Li-Ion battery to deliver more than the 5.5 hours talks time its predecessor had.
The Curve processor in the 8900 running at 512 MHz will see a new one clocked at a faster 624 MHz that is now being used in the Bold 9700. The 3.2 megapixel shooter in the 8900 is competent and leading edge in its time with autofocus LED flash, image stabilization and geo tagging.
