Blackberry Style 9670 deals & review

BlackBerry is a phone manufacturer that has an almost iconic design for most of their phones. With the exception of their full touchscreen handsets such as the BlackBerry Storm 2, BlackBerry phones often opt for a smaller scale screen above a compacted QWERTY keypad. This design has made them highly popular with professional phone users the world over, due to their ease of typing combined with various software features. The BlackBerry Style does not fit the mould of traditional BlackBerry phones and instead opts for a clamshell design that has not made much of an appearance on the phone market since the arrival of touch sensitive smartphones.

Once opened up the BlackBerry Style has many of the features that will be familiar to BlackBerry users the world over. The internal screen is very much in keeping with other BlackBerry handsets (touchscreen models aside) and there is still that iconic QWERTY pad on board. The Style also has a secondary screen on the outside of the phone that can be put to good use when the phone is in its closed position. This can be used to tell the time, screen calls or find out whether you have any new messages.

Like all BlackBerry phones the Style is an excellent handset for messaging, with the usual SMS and MMS on board and of course excellent email support. There is also support for instant messaging as well as many other professional phone features such as MS Office document editors. In keeping with its web savviness the Style has full 3G and Wi-Fi support, as well as Bluetooth and microUSB. For the Style BlackBerry has done away with GPRS and EDGE which are no longer present, and perhaps somewhat redundant with modern 3G connections.

On board is an excellent 5 megapixel camera that is replete with features including an LED flash, autofocus and image stabilisation as well as geo-tagging and VGA video recording. There is 150MB´s worth of internal memory available for storing photos, or music and video for the excellent media player. This can be expanded to over 16GB with microSD with an 8GB microSD card included with the phone.

At present (October 2010) the BlackBerry Style is only available for US release but it is likely that BlackBerry will unleash the Style on to UK shores very soon.
