Why compare with us?

The HP Pre 3 is, along with the Veer and the TouchPad, amongst the first devices released by HP since their acquisition of US phone manufacturer Palm. Palm had received critical acclaim for the initial Pre handset which introduced the WebOS system to phones with a number of software innovations including a card style multitasking system. The HP Pre 3 is essentially the Palm Pre 3 which carries on the same physical style and excellent operating system.

Like the original Palm Pre and the subsequent Pre 2, the HP Pre 3 comes with the same sliding design with a compact BlackBerry style QWERTY keypad beneath. With a 3.6" capacitive touchscreen the Pre 3 comes with an excellent resolution of 480 x 800 and 16 million colours that beautifully show off the WebOS system on board. As a capacitive screen the Pre 3 comes with multitouch support and an accelerometer is also included for auto rotation of the interface.

While the original Pre had a somewhat meagre 600MHz processor, and the Pre 2 had a 1GHz processor, the Pre 3 has seen another boost in performance with a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor on board. Another area that has seen improvement is the Pre 3´s 5 megapixel camera. While the Pre 2 also featured a 5 megapixel camera the new HP incarnation boasts of 720p HD video recording which was not available on earlier models.

With the Pre 3 you can either have 8GB or 16GB of internal storage space, although with either option microSD cards are not available. This is perhaps one of the main let downs of this phone as storage really is limited to these figures. Having said this, it is still an ample amount of room for most people to store music and video content, which are both superbly supported by the phone´s media player. The HP Pre 3 comes with Adobe Flash 10.1 support so that you can also enjoy streaming video content from online as well.

The HP Pre 3 comes with high speed HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections available, which are perfectly complemented by the excellent messaging features on board. These include threaded SMS, MMS and email.
