Why compare with us?

In a word or two

The LG GD510 Pop is a small, low-cost and user-friendly touchscreen phone which houses some improvements on the otherwise similar LG Cookie.

The Design

The smallest 3 inch touchscreen phone currently on the market, the LG GD510 Pop is pretty to look at. The screen is framed by black glass and encased in light silver at the front and sides with a dark silver, faux brushed metal finish on the back. There is just one button on the front, for answering and ending calls, and accessing the main menu. The button has a different backlight according to the event, for example it goes green when the phone rings and turns red when you answer, until you hang up.

LG has made a solar powered battery cover for the Pop phone, although this is an optional extra. This cover is environmentally friendly and charges your phone using the natural power of sunlight. For every ten minutes of sun exposure, the optional solar battery cover is said to give you over two minutes of talk time or 180 minutes of standby time for your LG GD510 Pop. So you can be stylish and green with this mobile.

Specifications

Designed to be accessible to most people, with a budget-friendly price tag, the LG GD510 Pop still boasts some good features. With a scaled down version of the touch interface on LG S-Class phones like the LG Arena and LG Crystal, the touchscreen is responsive and scrolling through screens is almost on a par with the iPhone for effortlessness.

You can customise your Pop phone easily – a simple shake and the widgets on your home screen are rearranged. Widgets include FM radio, a mini music player, weather widget, notes app, web search and pocket apps. The pocket apps offers access to a few other installed applications including Running Mate, Weight Tracker and Sound Tuner. There is also a social networking app which supports Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, so you can just be a press away from interacting with your friends.

The LG GD510 Pop comes with two further home screens. The second one is for arranging your contact icons and the third one is the Livesquare home screen which displays all your recent communication. These screens are handy for quickly accessing friends’ details although the only two choices for setting a background on the Liversquare screen are a zoo or a park which will not appeal to everyone.

Considerations

You can browse the internet on your LG GD510 Pop although there is no 3G or Wi-Fi support. However, you don’t buy the Pop for super fast web browsing – you buy it for its stylishly small frame and interactive touchscreen. The features are similar to those on the LG Cookie but with a better build quality and a more responsive screen.

Verdict

If you are on a budget but still crave a phone with a good touchscreen that lets you listen to music, take photos on a 3-megapixel camera, stay in touch with friends on social networking sites, email and text, then the LG GD510 Pop is for you.
