The Korean mobile phone innovator LG Electronics is expanding its Cookie line-up first with the successor to its acclaimed LG KP500/501Cookie handsets, the Cookie Plus, and now it gets a new family member with the LG GD290 Cookie Fresh.   It’s another non-smartphone sporting the touchscreen monoblock form factor with a trendy social networking integration from a Facebook native client.

Without 3G/HSDPA data connectivity, WiFi and GPS SatNav functionality, this is a more affordable feature phone than the Cookie Plus and can be an attractive alternative to budget-conscious markets that don’t mind light features on a capable feature phone.

Light Features up Close

The Cookie Fresh gets a quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) with Class 12 GPRS/EDGE for up to 48 Kbps data connectivity speeds on the 2G network. Local data transfers get Bluetooth 2,1 and microUSB 2.0 for wireless and wired day sync options, respectively.

It comes with a trendy touchscreen monolith measuring 108 x 52.9 x 12.5 mm ad weighing a very pocketable 89 grams and shares the same body color scheme variation as the Cookie Plus like silver, blue - light silver, purple-white and orange-white.

You get a 3-inch LCD TFT resistive touchscreen display with Wide-QVGA (400 x 240) resolution and 256 colors, an accelerometer for UI auto rotate landscape or portrait viewing, gesture shortcuts as well as handwriting recognition.

It gets the same Flash-based cartoon user interface that, together with its colors should really make an impression on the youth wanting their first mobile phone in the trendy touchscreen form.

The LG GD290 Cookie Fresh imaging is less endowed with a rudimentary 2 megapixel camera. Multimedia comes off with the usual media playback support for common media content formats, speakerphones and a stereo FM radio with RDS and its own built-in antenna, You also get a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth A2DP support for wired and wireless stereo listening respectively.

Its phone memory allows up to 1,000 phonebook entries with photocall feature. There’s the expected microSD memory expansion capability for up to 16 GB. You get 5 hours of talk time and 390 hours of standby time from a standard 900 mAh Li-Ion battery fully charged. It gets preloaded with WAP 2.0 HTML web browser, push email and email client support.
