Coming soon after its first Android smartphone, Korean mobile phone giant LG Electronics releases the LG GT540 Swift running Google’s Android 1.6. It’s LG’s answer to the social networking crowd looking for an Android smartphone that is as socially aware as other smartphones on other platforms but reasonably priced.
- Thehandset uses LG’s S-class UI running on top of the Android 1.6 platform. It gets powered by a 550 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3530 RISC engine.
- The LG GT540 Swift gets a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for international roaming on 2G and a dual band UMTS with HSDPA for high speed internet surfing on the 3G network. It has WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspot internet access while its local high speed data connectivity gets Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR for wireless data transfers and microUSB 2.0 for wired data transfers. There’s SatNav functionality with its A-GPS and Quick GPS apps.
- The slim body is dominated by a 3-inch HVGA resistive touchscreen with 256k colors and has the usual accelerometer for auto-rotate viewing based on handset orientation. Multimedia comes with the expected media players that support the common audio and video files that now includes DivX.
- You also get to enjoy analog stereo FM with RDS. Music listening comes from a mono speakerphone or from either wireless stereo headsets using its Bluetooth A2DP or through regular wired headphones using its 3.5mm jack.
- Its digital camera has a 3 megapixel resolution with autofocus but without flash. It has face/smile recognition and basic video recording.
- Phone memory consists of a 256 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM with nearly unlimited phonebook entries and call and comes with microSD external memory expandability for up to 32GB. .
- There’s an HTML web browser with Flash and Java support as well as an SNS Manager with homescreen widgets that allow instant access to and integration with social networking sites like Bebo, Facebook and Twitter including fire sharing sites like YouTube. It also comes preloaded with Google Search, Google Talk, Google Maps and a document viewer for PDF and common MS Office files.
