Why compare with us?

In a word or two

The LG GW990 sports a super-large 4.8 inch touchscreen and impressive features to match.

The Design

The LG GW990 is a long smartphone with an incredible 4.8 inch touch-sensitive screen. This screen size dwarfs its rivals including the Toshiba TG01 (4.1 inches) and the HTC HD2 (4.3 inches). The resolution is on a par with the incredible size and is perfect for watching movies and browsing the internet – LG has said that because of the GW990’s screen size, you can view websites without the need to scroll.

Although limited details about this new “superphone” are confirmed, the responsiveness of the touchscreen is very good, needing only the slightest touch and swipe to access the feature of choice. In fact, its responsiveness is as good as the screen on the iPhone.

Specifications

The LG GW990 is powered by Intel’s so-called Moorestown processor which is powerful and makes the mobile phone a strong multi-tasker. Not only can you have several applications running in the background, you can enjoy running three applications together without hindering your enjoyment. For example, you could watch a movie with the image taking up one third of the screen, check your emails in another third, and send a text in the final third.

In terms of speed, the LG GW990 is fast. The phone supports both Wi-Fi and 3G and so promises a swift connection to the internet. The processor is undoubtedly quick too although the precise speed is not yet known – so it remains to be seen if it is as rapid as the Snapdragon processor in the Google Nexus One phone.

The Moorestown processor in the LG GW990 has been built with the environment in mind, and is an energy-efficient version of Intel’s Atom processor which powers laptops. This is a good feature as the 3D ability of the screen and the phone’s multi-tasking are bound to drain the battery pretty quickly.

Other features of the LG GW990 include a 5-megapixel camera, GPS and a 16GB internal memory which can be boosted by a memory card.

Verdict

The jury is naturally still out on the LG GW990 as many of its features and capabilities are yet to be confirmed. We will update this review as soon as possible.
