In a word or two

The Motorola BACKFLIP is a smartphone with all the internal features to be expected, together with a unique design.

The Design

As the name suggests, the Motorola BACKFLIP is a mobile phone which can perform a back flip. The unique design is what differentiates the phone from the Motorola DEXT, as you can prop the BACKFLIP on your desk or table with the screen flipped backwards and facing up, making it easier to view movies, play music or transform the mobile into a digital photo frame.

The 3.1 inch touchscreen has a high resolution and displays images with vibrant colour and clarity. To keep the view of the screen clean and clear, you can always opt to navigate the phone using the Backtrack feature. The Backtrack is a touch-sensitive pad on the reverse of the screen – which is only visible when the phone is open – which allows you to scroll to the feature you want without having to touch the screen.

The keyboard on the Motorola BACKFLIP is always visible because of the way the phone opens. Motorola is said to have made the keys extra-hardwearing to reflect this constant exposure, although these keys are deactivated and won’t make any wrong presses when the phone is closed and in your pocket or bag. The keyboard is a full QWERTY one with a row of shortcuts for enhancing the easiness of navigation.

Specifications

The Motorola BACKFLIP is a smartphone so alongside its clever and quirky design are a number of advanced features. The user interface is Motoblur – also used on the Motorola Droid. Motoblur is a nifty feature which helps you manage your personal and work life by streaming your messages – from emails, Facebook, Twitter etc – into the one place on your home screen. Your contacts can be synchronized also to make keeping track of friends much easier.

Another advantage of Motoblur is that it provides you with peace of mind. Should you ever misplace your Motorola BACKFLIP, you can locate the phone using its GPS function – either then accessing all the data securely online or remotely erasing the information if necessary.

The Motorola BACKFLIP comes with a number of applications already integrated including for social networking sites, photo-sharing sites like Picasa, and Google Maps. There is also access to the Android Market which, similar to the Apple App Store found on the iPhone, lets you choose additional applications from a wide range.

The camera inbuilt on the Motorola BACKFLIP is a 5-megapixel one with an LED flash and automatic focus. There is a forward-facing camera as well as a backward-facing camera, so you can make video calls too.

Verdict

The Motorola BACKFLIP promises to be an interesting and effective smartphone full of clever and friendly features. More details concerning the performance of the Motorola BACKFLIP in particular, will be updated soon.
