Motorola DEXT deals on contract
Better known as the Cliq in the US markets and elsewhere, the Motorola DEXT was the first Android smartphone from the world’s 4th largest mobile phone maker and the first to throw its exclusive support on Google’s Linux-based operating system for all its succeeding smartphones. Android has now emerged as the world´s favourite phone OS even beating the iPhone iOS. While Motorola has since released a number of newer Android handsets the DEXT remains an excellent messaging phone offering great value for money.
Superb Features
Running the older Android 1.5 Cupcake OS on the Qualcomm MSM7201 processor clocked at 528 MHz, the DEXT comes with the pioneering widget-based Motoblur UI which greatly facilitates social networking as you get Facebook, Twitter and MySpace on one screen without logging into each separately. Available in midnight titanium and winter white colors and under Orange and T-Mobile networks, the DEXT is a 3G phone on the tri band UMTS with versions on both sides of the Atlantic and comes with DSHA at 7.2 Mbps for fast internet surfing.
It’s a quad band GSM with class 12 GPRS/EDGE data speeds on the 2G network. You get hotspot internet surfing support with its WiFi 802.11b.g at 54 Mbps and comes with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 for wireless and wired data synching, respectively. An integrated GPS with A-GPS support powers its SatNav functionality and comes with digital compass and preloaded with Google Maps with Street View.
Display gets a boost with its capacitive touchscreen technology on a 3.1-inch TFT LCD with Wide-VGA resolution and 256k colors. It has the usual gravity accelerometer for auto rotate viewing orientation and a proximity sensor for touchscreen auto-disable when in a call.
There’s no FM radio but entertainments comes from its media players for audio files in the MP3/eAAC+/WAV/WMA9 format and video files in the MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV9 format. There’s a speakerphone and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired high fidelity headsets and its Bluetooth A2DP enables you to listen with wireless stereo earphones.
The Motorola DEXT provides a 256MB RAM. 523MB ROM and a user-specific 1GB memory storage in the phone and can be expanded up to 32GB from its microSD external memory expansion slot. You get a free 2GB microSD card with the retail kit. You get up to 6 hours of talk time and 320 hours of standby time from its 1420 mAh li-ion battery on a single charge.
