Motorola Defy deals on contract

Motorola Defy Deals

Other the years a number of niche phone markets have developed, from phones catering for photographers like the Samsung Pixon 12, to HD video phones, music phones and the like. While phones are more and more bringing all of these different areas together there are still many speciality phones that will cater to one market but ignore other features. Rugged and durable phones are an area where this holds true, with phone manufacturers assuming that people who need a rugged phone are not interested in other features. The Motorola Defy seeks to change this for good.

Most rugged phones will offer durability and a level of protection not usually found on other devices, but be extremely lacking in all other areas with not so much as a game of Snake on board. The Defy is a rugged phone while at the same time offering the latest in touchscreen technology and smartphone features.

The 3.7" screen runs on the best capacitive technology and comes with over 16 million colours available. This beautifully shows off the Motoblur interface which runs on top of Google Android. Motoblur offers the latest in social network integration, with all of your friends status updates and tweets delivered directly to your phone homescreen.

Unlike most rugged phones the Defy also comes packed with a camera, and quite a nifty camera at that. At 5 megapixels the camera includes LED flash and autofocus as well as additional features such as geo-tagging. Geo-tagging may be a particularly desirable feature to have on a rugged phone, for people who may spend a great deal of time out and about in the great outdoors.

Wi-Fi and 3G are included and make the Defy an excellent phone for web browsing while out and about. There is also fantastic support for email and various instant messaging clients. SMS threaded viewing is supported on top of this. There is support for a wide range of music formats and the 2GB internal storage can be upgraded with 32GB microSD cards providing plenty of room for music and videos. A 2GB microSD card is included with the phone.

In terms of ruggedness the Defy is perhaps not the most rugged phone on the market. The touchscreen alone makes it more liable to damage than more basic handsets. Having said this it is certainly the most durable touchscreen on the market. It can be held 1 metre under water for about 30 minutes with no damage done and is resistant to all sorts of dust and sand particles.

Until now people looking for a durable phone have been stuck with the most basic and limited features available. The Defy now gives these users a much better option than the standard range of rugged phones available. The Defy may not be the most rugged phone but offers a happy medium between ruggedness and the latest high end features.

Last year’s popular Motorola Defy distinguished itself by offering a full-featured smartphone experience in a package that, unlike its less robust competitors, wouldn’t crumble into dust if you gave it so much as a sharp look. The Defy boasted dust and scratch resistance, the ability to survive all but the worst of slips and drops, and could even survive being submerged in water for 30 minutes. Add to this a decent spec sheet and an attractive ...

The tablet industry is getting a major blitz of Android devices as a large percent of the latest tablet offerings all make use of the Google made open source mobile platform. Despite the fact that Google has specifically stated several weeks back that the Android OS was never meant to be used in tablet devices –they have the Google Chrome OS intended for that purpose, it is hard to deny the strong marketing appeal of the little green robot. Ac...
