Motorola Dext 2 deals & review

The original DEXT was released back in 2009 and aimed at the younger messaging generation. Complete with, at that time novel, social networking integration and an excellent slide-out QWERTY keyboard the DEXT was certainly fit for the job. Running on Android 1.5 this popular handset is long overdue and update and finally it has arrived with the DEXT 2, announced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The DEXT 2 takes on a similar appearance to the original and still features an excellent slide-out keyboard. This has taken on a new design however with honeycomb shaped buttons replacing the previous square buttoned keypad. The DEXT 2 has also had an upgrade to a more recent version of Android with Android Froyo (2.2) on board and all the additional benefits that provides.

The DEXT 2 also features Motoblur which was one of the first interfaces to introduce social networking integration. As one of the main highlights of the original DEXT it is no surprise that this is also executed expertly on the DEXT 2. Social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are integrated into the interface so that you can easily access information in your contacts list or post updates to your online status. Along with threaded SMS, email and instant messaging this is one area where the honeycomb keyboard can be put to good use.

With 3G and Wi-Fi the DEXT 2 is great for online activity. There is Flash support as well as YouTube and Picasa integration, allowing you to stream videos and quickly upload photos captured on the 5 megapixel camera. This comes with dual LED flash as well as autofocus and geo-tagging. For photos, music or video there is 1GB internal storage space with a further 32GB available with microSD. The DEXT 2 has also had a significant increase in processing power with its 1GHz Snapdragon processor which brings it into keeping with the current industry standard.

Like the original DEXT the DEXT 2 is a perfect device for all those keen on messaging, social networking or just general online activity. It has excellent connectivity options available and also plenty to keep you entertained and with more storage space for media than even many of the top line smartphones.
