As Motorola’s first touch-screen tablet, the Xoom is an obvious choice for users looking to purchase a tablet that runs Android’s purpose-built operating system, Honeycomb.
Featuring all the great usability that’s enshrined in Android devices, including the popular pinch-to-zoom mechanic, and also offering internet access via the revolutionary 4G network, the Motorola Xoom looks set to take the tablet market by storm.
At the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Motorola was keen to show off its first entry into the touchscreen tablet market. Standing between the first and second generation of tablet devices the Xoom certainly has a lot to boast over its existing competitors. As one of the first Android tablets to come with Android 3.0 Honeycomb it is also one of the first truly fit for the purpose.
Featuring a 10.1" capacitive screen the Xoom comes with full multitouch support including pinch to zoom (should that be xoom?) and a revolutionary new "floating" multi-finger interface. It features a high resolution for a tablet with 1280 x 800 and 24bit colour (16million+). With support for Adobe Flash it is ideal for streaming video from online, as well as music and downloading content with 3G and Wi-Fi connections. It also packs a lot of hardware punch with the latest Tegra 2 dual core processor, 1GB RAM and 32GB (expandable to 64GB with microSD) storage.
The Motorola Xoom marks the beginning of the next generation of mobile devices as it is compliant with 4G networks. US networks Verizon and T-Mobile are already unrolling 4G networks across the United States but at present we in the UK will have to wait another year until 2012 to make use of 4G. If you were thinking of getting a tablet for the long haul however (rather than purchasing the latest model every few months) then the Xoom could be a good choice to go for, seeing as it is already up to the standard of technology that is yet to make it to our shores.

The Motorola Xoom is ideal for entertainment, with fantastic web browsing including video and audio streaming and the ideal screen size for displaying web pages in their full glory. There are two cameras present on the Xoom including a 5 megapixel main camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling. The main camera includes 720p HD video recording and the Xoom comes with an HDMI port for you to play videos directly through your TV.
The Motorola Xoom was announced amidst a large number of other devices and a good amount of Android tablets. The Motorola Xoom is certainly one of the tablets that stands out as an excellent all-round entertainment and web surfing device and has the added benefit of longevity due to its 4G support.
