Nokia 5228 deals on contract
On the first week of June this year, Nokia announced, almost too quietly, the release of yet another 5288-inspired smartphone model – the Nokia 5228. Well-informed mobile phone enthusiasts and critics easily noticed that the new 5228 resembles in every respect the Nokia 5233 which was released January this year. It’s like seeing two of the same thing. In fact, many mobile phone websites today refer to the 5228 and the 5233 interchangeably or as one and the same device.
The same phone with 3 names?
To add to the confusion, the specs and features of all the Nokia 5288-inspired models – the 5233, 5230 and the latest 5228 – all look the same. Now, why would Nokia want to do this? The very minor difference which can be spotted lies in the video recording features. The Nokia 5230 can only record VGA quality videos at 30 fps while the newer 5228 can record hi-def videos at 30 fps at 640 x 360 pixels resolution. Other than that, the 5230 and 5228 share virtually identical software and hardware.

The Nokia 5228 has an ARM 11 434 MHz processor beating at its core and runs a Symbian Operating System v9.4 with a fast S60 v5 UI riding on top. It is shipped with a bright 3.2-inch TFT resistive touchscreen which can display up to 16 million dazzling colours at 360 x 640 pixels resolution.

The display has great features like a proximity sensor which automatically shuts down the device and an accelerometer which automatically rotates the user interface to follow the phone’s orientation. The 5228 is also capable of handwriting recognition to provide better security.
The 5228 is a 2G GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) smartphone with both Class 32 EDGE and GPRS network support. It’s equipped with Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP which enables it to exchange data with other Bluetooth-equipped devices, and a microUSB v2.0 which allows the phone to connect to a Mac or PC.
The Nokia 5228 ships with a 2 megapixel digital camera with 1600x1200 pixels image resolution. The camera is capable of shooting 640x360 pixels video at 30 fps. The phone has a built-in internal memory of 70 MB storage and 128 MB RAM. If the user has a large multimedia collection, the memory can be expandable up to 16 GB with the use of its microSD card slot.

The 5228 has a built-in media player which can play back videos in MP4, H.264, H.263 and WMV formats. It can also play back audio in MP3, WAV, eAAC+ and WMA formats. Users will be entertained on the go with the phone’s pre-installed games as well as a stereo FM radio with RDS.
The Nokia 5228 is powered by the 5230´s 1320 mAh Li-Ion (BL-5J) battery which can play up to 33 hours of non-stop music on a single charge. It will be available in white and black front colour versions while the back will come in silver, dark silver, yellow, blue, pink and red.
