Nokia 8800 Gold Arte deals on contract

Nokia 8800 Gold Arte deals

Nokia is not new to the world of mobile haute couture with previous Luna and Sirocco handsets. This time, it has the Nokia 8800 Arte which takes another stab at high end fashion sense with 150 grams of all steel slider body measuring 109 x 45.6 x 14.6 mm that won’t run out of unmistakable snob appeal in looks and in price.

High Fashion Features

Almost everything about it is small and minimalist except a few outstanding features that Nokia balances out. And what is outstanding is its exquisite look and feel that comes from a finely sculpted and constructed all steel body with fingerprint resistant surfacing at the back and a scratch resistant screen. It has the Symbian S40 5th edition UI despite not being a Symbian smartphone and its price is equally outstanding so that you know only a few people on earth can own one.

You get a minimalist 2-inch QVGA display that may not be impressive, but you can’t very well expect anything larger than that on a petite body. But what makes it remarkable is its OLED display technology with 16 millions colors. It even has an accelerometer not for auto rotate viewing but for face-down auto turn-off to mute the sound from its speakerphones. You get a 3.2 megapixel camera which is quite upscale at this size and has autofocus and VGA video recording at a decent 15fps frame rate.

The Arte is a conservative feature phone so you get only a basic tri band GSM radio with class 10 GPRS/EDGE data speeds on 2G. But it’s also a 3G mobile phone on a single band UMTS with 383 kbps HSDPA data connectivity. There’s no WiFi but local data syncing gets served with the usual Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB OTG.

Phone memory gets a generous 1 GB with up to 1,000 phonebook entries but there’s no microSD expansion slot. It is powered by a slim 1,000 mAh Li-Ion BL-4U battery that gets you up to 3 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby time on a single charge.

Conclusion

As a fashion phone, the Nokia 8800 Arte succeeds as a head turner in the looks department. To say that it feels solid in your head can be an understatement for something so small and so heavy. Feature-wise, you get what you need and nothing more. Apart from a cutting edge OLED display, its extravagance comes only skin deep and wallet hungry.
