O2 has announced this year’s winners of its green mobile phone scheme – “the only sustainable rating system for mobile phones” – crowning the Nokia E7 and Nokia C6-01 in joint first place.
In O2’s Eco Rating scheme, both Nokia smartphones scored 4.1 out of 5.
Scoring is based on the handset’s environmental impact, how helpful the phone is supporting people to lead sustainable lives, and how ethical the manufacturer is.

Nokia C6-01 deals on contract
The C6-01 is a very stylish touchscreen featuring a great array of entertainment, messaging and internet features. Running on the latest version of Symbian there have been many upgrades to the interface to bring it into line with the competition (from the likes of Android). One of the biggest updates to the new Symbian has been to make it more socially aware. In keeping with many other operating systems Symbian can now pool information from various social networks onto the phone homescreen, so you can be easily kept up to date with friends and family.
The C6-01 has a lot in common with its namesake, the earlier C6, albeit without the sliding QWERTY keyboard and with an improved camera and operating system. The 3.2" screen features the highest quality AMOLED technology, 16 million colours and capacitive touch sensitivity. This provides excellent room and quality for web surfing and watching videos. The capacitive screen allows for multitouch and features like pinch zooming which make the phone much easier to use.
The C6-01 features a top of the range camera, with 8 megapixels and dual LED flash. This is superb for taking still photographs, which would be desirable enough in itself, but it is also capable of HD video recording. Being able to record video in HD makes a whole world of difference as lower quality videos are almost not worth the effort for some people.
