The Nokia C6 has social media at its core. The pull-out QWERTY keyboard and 3.2 inch touch-sensitive screen combine to make social networking a doddle. Enjoy instant messaging and texting, as well as the inbuilt Facebook and Twitter apps: each and every notification will be sent straight to your home screen.
The C6 also boasts a 5MP camera for budding photographers, and an MP3 player. The only downside to the C6 is that it weighs in at 150g: slightly heavier than most high-end handsets.
In a word or two
The Nokia C6 is a smart, good looking handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and multiple communication features.
Design
The Nokia C6 has a neat design with a long bar frame, a thin line of three keys for calls and menu, and a 3.2 inch touch-sensitive screen. The full QWERTY keyboard is discretely hidden behind the screen, ready for use on those longer emails or ongoing instant messages.
The look of the C6 differs from the two phones Nokia launched this device alongside – the C3 and the E5, which both have a QWERTY keyboard on the front in the style of a BlackBerry.
Based on Nokia’s new way of labelling its mobile phones, the Nokia C6 is designed for simple communication and sits towards the high-end of the scale. It is more advanced than the C3, for example it supports 3G and has a 5-megapixel camera onboard.
Nokia C6 Specifications
With social media at its core, the Nokia C6 lets you communicate with friends your way – instant messaging, social networking sites, email, text, multimedia messaging and more are all supported. And each one has multiple options. For example, there are apps for Facebook and Twitter inbuilt; apps for Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk; and the ability to add up to ten different email accounts so you can access both work and personal email addresses.
All your messages and tweets are shown on your home screen on the Nokia C6. This way, you won’t miss what friends are up to and can reply whenever you want, instantly. And it means you don’t always need to open the individual app to interact with who you want.
When it comes to sharing the things that matter to you, the C6 lets you also share pictures thanks to its 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and face detection. There is a video option too so you can upload still and live images straight from your handset onto sites like Facebook, Flickr and YouTube. And because the memory can be increased to up to 16GB, there should be plenty of space for all your pictures and footage – and music also, which is good as the MP3 player lets you download songs from the internet or transfer from other devices via the microUSB or Bluetooth connections.
Another good feature of the Nokia C6 is the inclusion of Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation. Wherever you go, you can access turn-by-turn or step-by-step navigation on your mobile phone.
Considerations
At 150g, the C6 is not the lightest and 15g heavier than the iPhone. However, it compares fairly well against other handsets with a slide-out QWERTY and is 15g lighter, for example, than the Motorola Milestone.
Verdict
The Nokia C6 looks good and has some fun features to keep you entertained through its social networking abilities and on track through its Ovi Maps and document viewer. More details on this Symbian smartphone will be available soon in our full review.
