Nokia E5 Preview

In a word or two

Built for business and social purposes, the Nokia E5 neatly combines entertainment with function in a professional frame.

The Design

The Nokia E5 has a striking look, with two tones – the main colour is complemented by a thick silver strip beneath the screen and on the battery cover. Whether you choose carbon black, chalk white, sky blue, copper brown or silver grey, this effect is attractive and adds interest to the BlackBerry-like design.

Just like the Nokia C3, the Nokia E5 has a 2.4 inch screen and a full QWERTY keypad beneath with a large navigation pad and call keys in between. Unlike the Nokia C6 the screen is not touch-sensitive, although it does display images and text clearly and colourfully and the addition of the QWERTY keyboard means you can type all you want with confidence and swiftness.

Specifications

The Nokia E5 operates on the Symbian platform and has support for multiple communication functions. You can have up to ten email addresses on the phone which all come with Push so you are notified as soon as an email hits your account, saving you from having to check for updates. And there is support for email through Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveller, so adding and using business accounts is effortless.

In terms of data, the Nokia E5 has the capacity for up to an incredible 32GB using a memory card. So space should never be an issue on this handset! As well as being good for business reasons, this lets you fully enjoy the music player, transferring and downloading tracks to your heart’s content. And you can get truly snap-happy with the phone’s 5-megapixel camera – the LED flash lets you take pictures regardless of lighting and the fixed-focus should ensure blur-free images.

With social networking integrated on the Nokia E5, you can easily upload photos onto sites like Facebook or Flickr. Similarly, the film footage shot on the phone’s video can be shared with friends via sites like YouTube. And when it comes to social networking, all your tweets, status updates, messages and more are streamed onto your home screen so you can see exactly what’s happening in your social world – and reply directly or open the relevant app to interact on a broader scale.

Considerations

The battery life of approximately 5 hours of talk time is only a little better than the iPhone 3G S, so be prepared to charge fairly frequently.

Verdict

An attractive device with some strong abilities, the Nokia E5 looks like a good choice for business or social reasons. A full review is coming soon.
