The Nokia Eco Sensor is a new “green gadget” to be launched. This phone is still a concept phone. Nokia designed this gadget to keep with the latest trend by electronic companies to release environment friendly gadgets. This phone will help protect the environment either directly or indirectly. A direct effect would be if the Eco Sensor is biodegradable, thus reducing landfill. An indirect effect would be is it reduces any sort of emissions when using the phone.
Specifications:
The Eco Sensor is a small device with a small touchscreen. This screen will not be as bright as screens on phones such as the Nokia 5610, as its aim will be to conserve energy. The phone will have a basic resolution and might allow only up to 65000 colors. This is really low when compared to phones like the Nokia 5310 which offer up to 16 million colors.
One thing to remember is that the Nokia Eco Sensor is not a normal phone. It is a sensing device as well. This phone can share information with similar handsets to get a general awareness of the global environment. The phone will consist of a handset along with a sensor unit. The unit is what is strapped on the wrist or be worn around the neck. By using RFID and NFC technology, the information can be transferred to the handset easily. The phone and the sensor unit, both will be as compact as possible to minimize the amount of material used to make the phone. These materials will probably be renewable or recycled materials. Any technology used in the phone will be energy efficient. The sensor should be able to monitor atmospheric gas levels, by detecting levels of CO, as well as particulate matter. This will give you some insight no how clean the air you are breathing in is. A UV radiation sensor as well as a subscription to some sort of environmental catastrophe warning and guidance system will only make this device even more interesting. In addition to this, the sensor should also be able to monitor the heart rate, as well as noise level. A motion detector will help count steps, making this an invaluable exercise tool as well. A humidity, temperature and air pressure sensor will also give you an even better insight about the environment.
Overall, this device is a very interesting one and is the first of its kind. This is not the first environment friendly concept Nokia has come up with, the first being the Nokia Remade.
