Coming hot on the heels of the successful X6 with 32 GB phone memory, you get the Nokia X6 16GB that, as the name clearly indicates, has half the phone memory of its predecessor. Pitched as a challenger to the iPhone, it copies the same phone memory-based models that have no external memory expansion capabilities.
The world leader in mobile phones, Nokia, seems bent on dislodging the iPhone that continues to lead the smartphone markets worldwide. It is available in a couple of color schemes of blue on white and red on black at £299.99 on a Pay As You Go deal with 3 UK and is free on a 2-year £25 per month deal.
Superior to the iPhone
While it only has a 3.2-inch display compared with the iPhone’s 3.5m the X6 uses the same capacitive touchscreen technology on a more stylishly elegant form that’s both fresher and trendier than that on the iPhone. It measures 111 x 51 x 13.8 mm and weighs 122 g. The display enjoys the same 16 million colors typical of Symbian smartphones and comes with a proximity and accelerometer sensors as well as a scratch resistant glass surface.
The X6 uses the ARM 11 processor clacked at 434 MHz and runs the latest Symbian OS v 9.4 (S60 5.0). It’s a 3G phone on the tri band UMTS with a 3.6 Mbps HSDPA and is also a quad band GSM with class 32 GPRS/EDGE on 2G. It gets WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspot internet surfing while local high speed data transfer gets Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB 2.0. It has SatNav functionality with A-GPS support and Ovi Maps 3.0
Imaging on the Nokia X6 16GB gets an edge over that in the iPhone with a 5 megapixel shooter using the now recognizable Carl Zeiss optics common in upscale Nokia handsets. There’s dual LED flash, autofocus, geo tagging and vide light fro its 30fps VGA video recording. You also get a front secondary camera for 3G voice calls that can do QCIP video recording at a modest 15fps.
Your entertainment on the road comes with the Nokia media players for the common audio and video file formats, stereo FM with RDS, stereo speakers, Bluetooth A2DP and a 3.5mm headphone port. It boasts of a generous of 11.5 hours of talk time, 4.5 hours of video playback time and a superb 35 hours of music listening from its 1320 mAh Li-Ion BL-5J battery on a full charge.
