Preview Summary:Samsung E1120 3

The Samsung E1120 is a basic, budget handset - ideal for first-time phone users. The alpha-numeric keypad and candybar design are expected, but the E1120 is surprisingly light and slim. It's easy to use with just one hand, and will fit into the tightest of pockets.

The 1.52 inch screen is big enough for text messaging and scrolling through contacts, and the battery life - at 8.5 hours talk time - is high for such a cheap model. With no camera or memory to speak of however, the E1120's sole purpose really is for contacting friends and family.

The Samsung E1120 is one of the newest budget phones to be released this year. The phone has very mediocre features as it is in the lower end of the price spectrum. For a budget phone, this phone does fulfill its basic requirements though there are better phones in the market such as the Nokia 5030 Xpress Radio which also falls on the lower range of the price spectrum.

The phone looks good with a mostly black outer casing. The front of the phone is bordered with a light grayish border which only adds to the phone’s appeal. The edges of the phone are rounded which is nice as it makes the phone look more compact than it actually is. The phone has a standard numeric keypad with well laid out keys which are fairly easy to use. One disadvantage is that the keys are a bit too flat which make it a difficult for quick texting, as the keys take time for the user to be able to distinguish them by simply touching them. The phone is not exactly slim like the W580i but it is of a good size and feels solid when held. The phone is very light making it very pocket friendly and easy to operate using just one hand. The screen is a bit too small and can seem a bit too cramped especially in the main menu view. The phone memory is pretty dismal and the fact that it cannot even be expanded is a big disadvantage when it comes to storing media.

Overall the phone is ok for the “average Joe” on a budget but will not satisfy all users. The lack of even a basic 1.3 MP camera is pretty disappointing. Lack of a USB port or even Bluetooth means that files cannot be transferred. The phone does allow the user to send EMS and MMS. The Mobile Tracker application is an interesting one as, it alerts the user in case the SIM of the phone is changed allowing the user to easily track the phone. The user interface of the phone is basic and is actually quite easy to use. The interface is almost “intuitive” and scrolling through it takes virtually no effort. The battery life of the phone is high when compared to other phones such as the Nokia 5610 where the talk time is only to a maximum of 5 hours.
