Samsung E2370 deals on contract

Samsung E2370 deals

If you want a mobile phone with 3G, quad band GSM, a large 3-inch touchscreen display, WiFi, GPS, social networking or a 3 megapixel camera, look elsewhere. Otherwise, read on. If you belong to the thronging budget conscious markets that want a simple communications device on the road with some nod to imaging and entertainment at their barest, then the new unpretentious Samsung E2370 could be right for you.

Basic handsets couldn’t go any more basic than this unless you take out the imaging and multimedia features people have come to expect from even the least costly budget candybar phones since the turn of the 21st century.

Features Up Close

This is a dual band GMS with class 10 GPRS/EDGE on the 2G network making international roaming quite limited. As a budget entry level handset, there’s no 3G, WiFi or GPS. But you still get local data connectivity with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and an outdated microUSB 1.1.
The Samsung E2370 gets a conventional candybar form that comes with a striking orange sides on a black body color scheme that makes it stand out among candybar handsets. While it boasts of a body that’s treated for shock, dust and water-splash resistance on a body that measures a rather hefty 112 x 46 x 19mm, it can only accommodate a smallish 1.8-inch TFT LCD screen with QCIF (128 x 160) resolution and 256k colors.

This makes it look like a handset made in 2001. You get a camera with a rudimentary VGA resolution with video recording in the same resolution. Entertainment gets players for MP3 audio and MP4 video as well as a stereo FM receiver with RDS capable of Fm recording. It has stereo speakers and you can use wireless stereo listening over Bluetooth A2DP. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Phone memory comes with a phonebook that can take in up to 1,000 contacts and gets a microSD support for up to 8 GB. Power comes from a hefty 2,000 mAh Li-ion battery that should be the envy of other handsets with up to 20 hours of talk time and 1040 hours in standby on a single charge.

If you plan to do some internet surfing, there’s a WAP 2.0 HMTL web browser preloaded but you will need some extra patience to do that on a 1.8 inch screen even with decent GPRS speeds of up to 236.8 Kbps on a 2G data plan.

The rugged device from Samsung has launched in Germany for €129. The E2370 is a compact and simple handset that focuses on price and toughness over technology and apps. Not one to compete with the iPhone 4 or upcoming Nokia N8, the Samsung E2370 prides itself on a long battery life and IP54 certification. While it is not as tough as the Sonim XP3 Sentinel which is built for lone workers and is extreme in its ruggedness, the E2370 provides a...

Amidst all the high profile flamboyancy and technological shenanigans at this year's Mobile World Congress are the phones that don't quite get as much attention, and undeservedly so as they are the phones that most people will probably end up going for. While delighting in showing off their Ch@t, their Beam and their Wave, Samsung also had a few more affordable handsets on show this week in Barcelona. With an affordable budget candybar phone, Sam...
