Translated from Spanish to mean “genius,” the Samsung Genio line, also known as Corby in other markets, gets another full-QWERTY feature phone with the Samsung Genio Qwerty or the Samsung B3210.
It’s a flattering take off from the famous QWERTY candybars from BlackBerry but gets a touch of playfulness from interchangeable body covers that Samsung calls Fashion jackets which became the signature hallmark for its Corby/Genio handsets. Apart from being a social phone, the Genio QWERTY sports a rather modest set of features typical of affordable entry level feature phones. It’s your basic quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) for international roaming on the 2G network anywhere on the planet.
As a budget phone, there’s no 3G or WiFi for high speed internet surfing but you get class 10 GPRS/EDGE data connectivity for up to 236.8 Kbps speeds on the 2.5G network. There’s a smallish outdated 2.2-inch TFT LCD landscape display with QCIF (220 x 176) resolution and 256k colors. Imaging comes with a modest and similarly outdated megapixel fixed focus shooter with video recording support. Multimedia entertainment gets better supported with media players form MP3/eAAC/WMA audio formats and MP4/H.263 video file formats. There’s a 3.5mm audio jack for using wired regular stereo headphones and you also get wireless stereo Bluetooth earphone support with its A2DP profile.
There’s a modest 40 MB onboard memory on the Samsung Genio Qwerty with up to 1,000 phonebook entries with photocall and microSD expandability for up to 8 GB. It standard 800 mAh Li-Ion battery delivers up to 7.5 hours of talk time and up to 390 hours of standby time on a single charge. Its SAR EU is rated at 0.63 watts per kilogram.
