Samsung Lindy M5650 deals on contract

Samsung Lindy M5650 deals

The world’s second largest among the Big Five in mobile phones appears to be hiding the fact that they are expanding their Corby line after the Corby Plus with a flurry of new touchscreen feature phones that use different branding but betray a Corby heritage.

You have the new Genio line and the Genoa. Now there’s the new Samsung Lindy M5650 that looks and feels like it was taken fresh from Corby’s loins. What betrays it is the colorful body and the bland but friendly touchscreen all-around functionality at bargain basement prices that show direct descendancy.

It inherits all the nice thing about the Corby line including social networking and its cartoonish graphics on the TouchWiz UI that is now optional. At a comfortable SIM-free price of €160, you couldn’t find a better value in its class.

Corby Features on the Lindy Plus

From now on, a 2.8-inch display becomes the threshold that separates a low-end touchscreen from an upscale one. Even with the TFT capacitive touchscreen used on it, the Lindy remains as affordable as any below that line. It still has QVGA resolution and 256 colors and that should betray that it still can’t break through the elite club of high end smartphones. You also get a 3 megapixel shooter with smile detection and QVGA video capture at 15fps – another low end feature. It comes with a secondary front facing video call camera.

What takes the Lindy above its Corby lineage is its WiFi 802.11b/g data connectivity for hotspot internet support, dedicated music keys in the body and a 3.5mm headphone jack, not to mention the capacitive touchscreen. It’s the same quad band GSM with class 10 GPRS/EDGE on the 2G network. But it gets 3G on the dual band UMTS with a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA for a truly satisfying online activity. Local data transfers get Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DOP and USB 2.0.

There’s excellent music playback on the Samsung Lindy M5650 thanks to Samsung’s DNSe (Dynamic Natural Sound engine) audio enhancer that allows surround sound and stereo widening. You get similar media players for the popular video and audio formats, stereo FM radio with RDS as well as Find Music recognition service. There’s Bluetooth A2DP for wireless stereo listening and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Phone memory gets capped at 50 MB but your still get microSD expandability for up to 8 GB. Unfortunately, its 960 mAh Li-Ion batter only goes as far as 3 ours of talk time and 300 hours of standby. EU SAR rating is 0.75 watts/kilo.
