But reading its technical data sheet suggests it’s another full-featured mid-priced mobile phone from the world’s number two maker in mobile phones, Korea’s Samsung. Other than the name that conjures up images of a disco rocker on the beat, it has more to show as music phone other than being a competent MP3 player on the side.
BEAT Features
Sporting a slider form factor, the Samsung M6710 Beat Disc is an affordable non-smartphone. Its body which only comes in black and measuring 106.8 x 50.9 x 14.7 mm accommodates a 2.6-inch display that’s uniquely large for its slider body.
It features Wide-QVGA resolution with 16 million colors depth and comes with an accelerometer for auto rotate portrait or landscape viewing convenience depending on handset tilt. Imaging is typically above average with a 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera with QVGA video recording at a slightly choppy 15fps frame rate.

Where the BEAT DISC stands out the most is its multimedia department. Entertainment on the road starts with a stereo FM receiver with RDS and the capable MP3 playback support without video playback. The BEAT DISC won’t get far unless able to deliver what it was meant to in the first place – be a mobile phone. It’s also a dual band UMTS (900 / 2100) with HSDA data speed up to 7.2 mbps on the 3G network for super fast internet connections.
It is a quad band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) radio for unhampered international roaming on the 2G/GSM networks anywhere on the planet. It also comes with class 10 GPRS/EDGE data connectivity speeds up to 236.8 Kbps for acceptably fast internet surfing and downloading on the 2G network.
It gets preloaded with a WAP 2.0 HTML browser to take advantage of its high speed 3G connectivity. Unfortunately, it has no WiFi for hotspot surfing but carries local data connectivity support for microUSB 2.0 and Bluetooth 1.2 with A2DP for wired and wireless data syncing and transfers, respectively. There’s also no SatNav feature.
Its internal phone memory is capped at a decent 80 MB with up to 1,000 contact entries for its phonebook capacity. You also get microSD external memory expandability for up to 16 GB where you can store all your music files before a long journey.
It gets preloaded with the usual phone apps like organizer, voice memo, SMS and MMS as well as Email client support. You also get a document viewer for the popular MS Office files including Adobe PDF files. . There’s a fairly adequate 800mAh li-ion battery to get you by for the day.
