Samsung Omnia 7 deals & review

Announced to coincide with the unveiling of Microsoft´s next generation Windows Phone 7 mobile OS, the Omnia 7 is one of the first phones from the Korean powerhouse Samsung to feature the new interface, and it seems, the obligatory "7" in its name. While the old Windows Mobile operating systems were once highly popular they had fallen behind the times somewhat with the social networking revolution. With the latest iteration Microsoft has been sure to offer up SNS integration as well as a less eye-offending design. At the same time it still retains all the professional features that had previously marked it out as an operating system.

Windows Phone 7 is powered on the Omnia 7 by a nippy 1GHz Qualcomm processor, the same processor that was found in Google´s ill-fated Nexus One. The Omnia 7 is visually stunning, with a 4" Super AMOLED capacitive screen employing over 16 million colours. This also features a very sharp resolution of 480 x 800 providing a very high quality visual experience, and multitouch input thanks to the capacitive technology on board.

The high quality graphics are not wasted on the Omnia 7´s camera, which boasts a megapixel count of 5 and features full 720p HD video recording. There is an LED flash and autofocus and various software features including geo-tagging thrown into the mix. Internal storage can be either 8GB or 16GB, providing you with plenty of room for your captured photos and videos, as well as any music or video content you may transfer over (by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or USB). With an excellent media player on board you can keep yourself entertained for hours with your personal media. There is also an FM radio available and you can download various touchscreen games to play around with.

Threaded SMS and MMS are supported as well as Microsoft´s legendary email support. Instant messaging clients such as Live (MSN) are available to use on the Omnia 7. The Omnia 7 supports the viewing and editing of Microsoft Office documents, so you can finish off that presentation while you are on the way to work.

The revamped Windows Phone 7 has introduced many much needed changes to the old Windows Mobile system, while still providing support for Microsoft´s great professional features. It remains to be seen how successful Windows Phone 7 will become, but the new design and social networking integration are a much needed addition. Inside the Omnia 7 is a phenomenal set of hardware features that should ensure that it is a popular phone, although its destiny may be at the mercy of the new Microsoft OS.
