It seems a trend these days to slap the “Pro” suffix to name handsets with full QWERTY keyboards that slide out. That’s what happens to the magnificent Samsung Omnia HD.
Sporting a QWERTY slider form, the Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 carries many of its excellent features in a body measuring 112.6 x 57.8 x 16.2 mm when closed and weighing 11g heavier at 159g. Inside comes an equally impressive engine with the Samsung S3C640 processor clocked at 800 MHz and assisted with a dedicated graphics accelerator engine to run the Windows Mobile OS with Samsung’s own TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface.
It comes with the same Work & Life home screen modes that allows you to customize your handset for a distinct dual personality for your work and personal use. And as a Windows handset, it comes with the usual Pocket Office and PDF viewer, as well as HTML browser, IM and email client apps.
Carrying the Omnia Tradition
The Omnia Pro enjoys 3G network coverage with a dual band UMTS radio with just HSDPA at 3.6 Mbps for high speed internet downloading and surfing. It also makes international a breeze in GSM networks with its quad band GSM radio with class 10 GPRS/EDGE data speeds of up to 236.8 Kbps on 2G.
Hotspot surfing is supported with a WiFi 802.11b/g with DLNA while Bluetooth 2,0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 takes care of local data transfers and syncing in wireless or wired mode, respectively. You also get SatNav functionality with a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support.
The Omnia Pro uses the same AMOLED display but with resistive touchscreen technology on a slightly smaller 3.5-inch size with Half-VGA resolution and 65k colors as limited by its Windows OS. It gets the same accelerometer for auto rotate viewing depending on haste tilt.
Imaging is only lightly diminished from 8 to 5 megapixel resolution with autofocus and LED flash as well as face/smile detection, image stabilization, panorama shooting, wide dynamic range and geo tagging form its GPS. You get the same high definition D1 (720 x 480) video recording at 30fps and a secondary camera for 3G video calls.
Its multimedia starts with a stereo FM receiver with RDS and the usual complement of media playback capability supporting audio content in the MP3, WAV, e-AAC+, WMA and AMR formats and video content in the DivX/Xvid, MP4, 3gp and H.263/H.264 file formats.
Sound gets enhanced with its DNSe (Dynamic Natural Sound engine) for stereo widening and surrounds sound effects. There’s a speakerphone, TV out in standard definition format and a 3.5mm headphone jack for high fidelity headphone listening. Alternatively, you can go wireless stereo listening with its A2DP profile on Bluetooth
Phone memory gets a generous 2GB with practically unlimited contact entries for its phonebook as well as a 256 MB RAM for the OS. You can expand user memory with its microSD expansion support for up to 32GB. The same 1500 mAh li-ion battery delivers a generous talk time of up to 12.3 hours and standby time of 580 hours. SAR EU is rated at 0.41 watts per kilo.
