Never mind that it still costs a lot at around £380 SIM free when you can get better functionality at a lower price tag, not to mention older handsets that can cost half as much.
But no matter, those heads turning your way can be priceless. This hasn’t escaped Samsung when it markets the Samsung S9110- the wristwatch phone that would fulfill one’s childhood fantasy to become a Dick Tracy or a James Bond..
Handset Features on the Wrist
It may take some getting used to the idea of talking to your wrist, but if Dick Tracy can do it, so can anyone. Its a dual band GSM 900/1800 with GPRS data speeds on 2G and housed in a 57.5 x 41.1 x 12.0 mm body. Some handsets out there are actually thinner but the S9110 is considered the world’s thinnest wristwatch phone.
That may be so but at 12mm thick, even the Nokia
E71/
72 is a thinner at 10mm. Overall, it’s no bigger than the biggest Seiko chronometer you can find and weighs just 97g, admittedly heavier than many candybar handsets. But take out its fine leather strap and you have the smallest mobile phone on the planet.
If you still feel awkward talking to your wrist or prefer not to disturb your seatmate in the train or bus, a wireless Bluetooth headset is a better alternative and is most recommended. It has Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP so you can even listen to music with it.
The S9110 is fueled by a 630 mAh Lithium-ion battery that gets recharged on a special desk charger. You only need to put the wristwatch on top to contact its proprietary charging pins to get fully charged.
Its 1.76” display uses capacitive touchscreen technology with 176 x 220 pixel resolution and 262k colors depth. And just like most upscale wristwatches, the display is protected with scratch-proof glass, though not claimed to be sapphire.
It gets preloaded with phone apps like a phonebook, tracking calls as well as an organizer feature basic to all handsets. You also get SMS/MMS for text and multimedia messaging, respectively, Microsoft Outlook sync, email client, voice recognition and an MP3 player.
It allows polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. There’s a 40MB internal memory that can’t be expanded as it has no card slot for memory expansion which would only add to the dimensions if it did have one.
So listening to music would be limited to a few titles in low resolution bitrates. There’s a speakerphone alright for your calls but there’s no 3G like in the LG GD910, its direct competitor which easily trumps this model with a built-in camera for 3G calling.
