When it comes to phones with neat musical extras, you’ll struggle to find better than the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman.
Apart from the obvious MP3 player, the Mix Walkman has some seriously nifty features including the brilliant Zappin – a tool that will play the choruses of the music in your library as you browse through them. Then there’s the karaoke tool, which allows you to turn down the vocals on your music so you can take over on vocal duties. Perfect for getting in some practice on your way to becoming a global superstar.
Announced shortly after the Sony Ericsson W8, the Mix Walkman is another handset from Sony Ericsson adopting the Walkman moniker. The Mix Walkman adds in some interesting new music features to those already found on Sony Ericsson music phones, including ´Zappin´ and a karaoke mode. Zappin will play you the choruses of the songs you are browsing through in your music library, making it a bit more interesting to find something to listen to.
The Karaoke mode can also be used to quieten the vocals on music in your collection, so that you can put your singing skills to good use. The Mix also includes a 3.5mm headphone socket and an FM radio. The phone has 100MB internal memory but you can top this up with 32GB SD cards, providing you with plenty of room for lots of music fun.
The Mix has a 3.2" touchscreen and features a similar interface design to the one found on the earlier W8 Walkman and Xperia mini phones, with the four corner buttons giving you direct access to your favourite apps from the homescreen. You can configure these as you wish, with a button to perhaps Facebook, YouTube and your messages, or whatever you prefer! Social networking fans will be glad to know there is good support for Facebook and Twitter.
The Mix has a 3 megapixel camera included, which includes a digital zoom and video recording. Perhaps not the greatest camera in the world but it does the job. The Mix also includes full HTML web browsing and email support. Although the phone is limited to EDGE for data connections it does come with Wi-Fi support, so that you can get online whenever you are in the vicinity of an open network.
The phone includes headphones in the box and also supports swappable bands to help you customise the phone. All in all the Mix Walkman is a great little music phone that will be highly popular with many aspiring pop stars throughout the country thanks to its karaoke mode.
