Unlike its predecessors, the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide (also referred to as a Hiptop) is not in fact made by Danger or Sharp, it is actually brought to us by Motorola. The device is as compact as can be, considering that it carries a QWERTY keyboard and a clear 2.5 inch TFT touch screen. The mobile device is able to offer a lot of handy messaging features that the teens are sure to love.
Offering Possibilities
The T-Mobile Sidekick Slide is comparable to the Sidekick LX in terms of its messaging features, built in 1.3 megapixel snapper and integrated Bluetooth. It also has the MySpace Mobile system which is a dream for those who have accounts in that social networking site.
Aside from text and multimedia messages, the Slide is also a contender in the email and IM departments. Being a T-Mobile device, the Slide comes with an email account courtesy of T-Mobile. Push email is supported by the device and up to a total of three POP3 and iMAP4 accounts may be accessed. Yahoo and AOL accounts also benefit from the push email system and the mobile phone comes pre packed with IM clients such as Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo and AOL. You can chat with up to ten friends at a time and if your connection is kind of iffy, the Slide will save your chat log until power is restored.
Design Elements
Representing quite a number of innovations from the design of previous models, the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide is more slim and compact and it features a screen which slides up to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard. This is quite a departure from the previous models’ swivel type of display.
When you slide the screen back in, it locks securely into place, which is definitely a plus over the more delicate swivel screen. It also saves space on the device, giving it a width of just 17.8 mm.
To make the unit familiar to Danger Hiptop fans however, the Slide keeps the same navigation keys as well as a recognizable feel overall. This is sure to please those who have grown accustomed to the previous Sidekick models.
The screen of the Slide is 25 inches when measured diagonally. It has a 65k color output as well as a 320 by 240 pixel display which looks quite sharp. The mobile phone’s full QWERTY keys are actually backlit so you never have to strain your eyes while typing. The joystick navigator works quite well and feels quite durable even under strain.
Fun Features
The T-Mobile Sidekick Slide is a device that is guaranteed to keep teens entertained. Its music player can play AAC and MP3 files and songs may be searched according to composer, genre, artist or album. Playlists can also be organized by track.
The MySpace Mobile application also allows users to get real time feedback from the site such as new comments, friend requests and incoming messages. Profile updates and photo sharing is also supported. Overall, the portable version of MySpace offers the same features as the PC version.
