Apple’s iPhone 12 is as good as it looks. The phone sports an attractive new design, a flagship chipset, impressive cameras, the new OLED display, comprehensive 5G support, and an overall outstanding performance. This is not to say that this smartphone is perfect. Apple’s iPhone 12 ships without a charger and it also offers a limited base storage. The device also has a low refresh rate compared to some of the flagship Android smartphones.

What colours does the iPhone 12 come in?

Apple’s iPhone 12 comes in six varying colours. You can opt for a black, white, blue, minty green, purple, or red device. You can purchase your iphone 12 directly from Apple, or you can obtain it from the various carriers.

Is the iPhone 12 design any good?

In a rare move, Apple has made some slight changes to the iPhone 12’s design. Instead of the typical rounded edges, this device has likeable flat edges that provide a nice change of pace. The new flat design does more than just improve the look of the iPhone 12. It also boosts the durability of the device alongside the new ceramic shield material.

The 6.1 inch iPhone 12 is compact, lightweight, and the ideal size for one-handed use. The 0.29 inches thick smartphone weighs 164 grams.

Apple’s iPhone 12 is prone to fingerprint smudges. If you absolutely dislike the look of these smudges, you can opt for a white device as the finger smudges are much harder to spot on this colour. The iPhone 12 line comes with the very beneficial oleophobic coating. It helps resist finger smudges to a certain degree and makes it a lot easier to clean the glass.

How good is the iPhone 12 display?

Apple have made some adjustments to the iPhone 12 display that have resulted in a superior viewing experience. For starters, the smartphone comes with the new 6.1 inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. The screen also has a higher resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels compared to the 898 x 1792 pixels that can be found on an iPhone 11. The iPhone 12 display is also HDR 10 rated.

One of the only downsides to the iPhone 12 display is the lower refresh rates. We’ve recently seen android flagships with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and 90 Hz. Therefore, the 60Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 12 lineup can feel a tad slower.

The iPhone 12 has an overall fantastic display and colours look rich and vibrant on the screen. With a typical brightness of 625 nits and a peak brightness of 1200 nits, it’s easy to read the iPhone 12 display outdoors even in sunny conditions.

Does the iPhone 12 support Magsafe?

The iPhone 12 (and the entire iPhone 12 lineup) has a new magnetic charging system called the MagSafe. The magnets are built in at the back of the phone, and they also allow you to quickly attach magsafe accessories such as cases, chargers, and wallets.

The magsafe adapter will charge your iPhone 12 at 15W. This is actually slower than Apple’s 20-watt USB-C adapter.

How good is the iPhone 12 Camera?

The iPhone 12 offers dual cameras that are capable of shooting stunning photos and footage. Apple has made some upgrades to the main camera including a larger f/1.6 aperture and a new 7-element design. These new adjustments in tandem with features such as Deep fusion (multi-stacking) and smart HDR result in significantly better shots, even in less-than-ideal lighting conditions.

Thanks to the Dolby vision video, the entire iPhone 12 lineup can record superior footage at 30fps. You can also capture quality selfies and portraits with the iPhone 12.

Is the iPhone 12 fast enough?

With the iPhone 12, Apple have replaced the already fast A13 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 11 series with an even faster A14 Bionic chip. This has resulted in an ultra-fast device that operates very smoothly.

The iPhone 12’s storage starts at just 64GB. You can also choose to purchase a device with 128GB or 256 GB at a higher price.

Does the iPhone 12 have a good battery life?

Apple does not publish battery capacity figures for its devices. However the iPhone 12 has a decent battery that can last up to one day and a half. The battery life is even higher if you choose to use 4G rather than 5G.

It is disappointing than Apple has decided to ditch the charging brick and headphones that typically came with an iPhone purchase. You may need to spend even more money to acquire an optimal charging solution.

Should you buy the iPhone 12?

The iPhone 12 is an excellent smartphone. With this device, you’ll enjoy the new OLED display, the gorgeous new design, an impressive performance, and a top-notch camera. There aren't many negatives to point at with the iPhone 12, but the device's limited refresh rate of 60Hz may be a concern for some and it also lacks a powerful digital zoom. If you're looking for something a little easier to slip into your pocked, you should check out the iPhone 12 mini, or if you're looking for the XL premium experience, take a look at the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
